Painted Nails

I decided to give myself a manicure tonight and decided to go with a bright red.

My favourite shade of red is Revlon's "Cherries in the Snow." I've been using it for about 20 years!!

It is this exact shade. It's blue based instead of orange based, so it is a true red.

I have the lipstick to match, but I don't wear the lipstick that often anymore. I think bright red looks nicer on a young woman and when I was 29 it was more fitting. These days I tend to wear a more lighter shade of lipstick.

What a beautiful color! It's exactly the type of shade I've been looking for. I'm going to give it a try. Thanks!

Very nice color! And, I love the color name as well!

I've been meaning to give myself a manicure. With all that has been going on, it would be nice to do something for myself. I'm lusting after the OPI Shatter polish that I saw here on TCS and also on FB. But, for now, it's not in the budget -- especially since I have plenty of other polishes I can use at home. I have a very nice metallic pink/rose that I love; maybe it's time for me to give myself my own mani/pedi.

I've been using the new Revlon Top Speed polish for a while now. I really like it and, compared to other brands with similar claims, it does last me a long time before getting chipped or scratched. I'm quite impatient and having to wait for my nails to dry always finds me with dog or cat hair stuck under the surface. But, the above polish dries really quickly and it can even stand up to my clumsy application! So, maybe tomorrow will be the day I treat myself?

Do we get to see a pic of your finished results? I love red polish, but my skin tone would never allow me to pull it off. So, I want to live vicariously through your red nails!

I love it as well! I have more bottles of nail polish than I know what to do with. I love my nails painted, but I have the upkeep involved, the chipping, etc.

Your skin tone can pull it off. Is the undertone of your skin pink or yellow? If you have a pink undertone, you need blue based colours. If your skin is a yellow undertone, then you need more orange based colours.

I have a pink undertone so I tend to look better in blue based colours such as bright pinks and reds. However, since I'm heavy I can't wear red all over since it makes me look like a barn. But on my nails or as an accent is a different story.

If you have a pink undertone try the Cherries in the Snow. If you have a yellow undertone, try "Revlon Red". One of those will look fabulous on you!!

I don't care much for fast drying nail polish. I find that they tend to look thick and gloppy or streaky.

My secret to long lasting nail polish?

1. Revlon quick dry nail polish base
2. Revlon nail polish
3. Revlon non chip top coat
4. Time between each layer to allow each layer to completely dry before applying another.

It's not uncommon for it to take me an entire day or even 2 days to paint my nails.

I wash my hands well and then wait about 2 hours before applying any polish.

I then apply the quick dry base.

Then I apply 1 thin coat of polish. I wait several hours for that layer to dry. Remember when you apply a layer, it softens the layers underneath. I allow 2 to 3 hours of drying time.

Then I apply another layer of the colour. Again allowing 2 to 3 hours of drying time. Or even overnight. Usually overnight

Then the no chip top coat. And again allowing 2 to 3 hours drying time. For reds I apply a second layer of top coat and once again allow 2 to 3 hours of drying time.

My polish lasts a full week without chipping.

I promised someone that I would take some pictures of my hands with my rings on them. I want to do that in the sunshine so that they sparkle It's pouring rain right now and hopefully it will be sunny tomorrow. If it is I'll take some pictures and upload them here and to my friend.

It really is a fabulous colour. The girl at the laundry mat commented on my nails.

Ooooh nice red! I've just recently been doing my nails frequently to get them back to their original good shape. I bought some turquoise blue and some bright green polish to match some of my summer shoes and clothes.

I always find that professional manicures last so long compared to my own manicures.
