hi everyone

sorry i haven't introduced myself before, life has this habit of catching you unawares sometimes lol
i have been reading your forum for months now,so thought it was about time i joined, the information here has been invaluble to me

now a little about myself and how i got my kitties
im daisy ,im 43,i've been married to a wonderful man for 23 years,i have 4 children and we are owned by three cats

just over a year ago a stray cat appeared in our garden, looking very skinny,we gave her some tuna and she decided to stay,we tried to find out who she belonged to,the owner came forward after two weeks, she said she didn't want the cat anymore so we asked if we could keep her,we named her Kit,
little did we know at the time that she was pregnant,
she gave birth to three kittens on may 22nd,two boys and a girl,we named them jack, archie and molly,
we decided to keep archie,
jack went to my brother, his cat didn't wake up from being neauted last year,
we had decided to give molly to a family friend but i took her to the vets to get her checked out because she always breathed really fast and shallow and when they were very little,we had to keep putting her on mum to feed, the others, being much larger than her, used to knock her off and smother her when she tried to feed,i thought she might of had a chest infection, but the vet said she has a birth defect, her chest is narrowed, making her heart and lungs the wrong shape,i think it is called funnel chested?? so we kept her too,
kit was spayed and microchipped when the kittens were six weeks old,
when they were twelve weeks old kit broke her leg,
our vet bandaged her leg,the first week she did great, second week she worked out how to get the bandage off,she spent more time having the bandage put back on than she did at home, she even got a cast off within 3 hours and she had a lampshade collar on lol
,
the vet said it was wasting our time and money rebandaging it again, so we had to confine her to a cage,we padded it out with foam so she wouldn't hurt herself on the bars, bless her,she meowed that much she lost her voice for a while, but her leg healed perfectly
Archie was neautered and microchipped at 5 1/2 months so he could go outside, we didn't want any unwanted kittens or him fighting
Molly was spayed and microchipped at 7 1/2 months, because of the birth defect the vet wanted to wait until she was older, she also took an x-ray of her chest,it does look pretty bad,she is very active but she needs to rest more often than the others,
the vet told us she won't reach old age 7 years at most, she also thought molly would be better as a house cat,
we have thought long and hard about this and we have come to the conclusion that it is better for Molly to have quailty of life rather than quanity, she looked so sad when the others were going out and she had to stay in,so she goes out for a few hours a day,she seems very happy and content with that
archie and molly are black and white, kit is black, white and ginger
the kittens are nearly a year old,kit is about 2 and it seems like we have always had them
i think that's about it and i hope i have given you a good picture of us
thanks for letting me join

take care
Daisy xx
