Mr Skittles had been scooting his butt on the floor for about a week and I noticed his anus was a bit swollen, so today he went to the vet and they did a secretion on him. They told me it was normal that it would still be irritated for another day or so, but would then get better. Well tonight he's been crying a bit (very low whining now and then) and I noticed that his anus had some blood around it. Is this normal after having his anus secreted? (BTW, the secretion was a bit thick and the vet explained it wasn't really normal and for us to keep an eye on him)

Oh, and the vet is not a 24-hr service, thus why I'm asking my fellow feline parents.

Thanks!

He is in pain. It must hurt really bad since he is crying. Cats hide pain instinctively and when they cry it's serious. I would take him in right away. Good luck to you and your little boy

He had his anal glands expressed. From the sounds of it, probably a bit too roughly. You can put a warm or cool compress against his anus to help sooth it a little but the concern here is that something was torn/ruptured or that there could be some infection in there now. He should probably go back to the vet … though I wonder if another vet would be better incase the vet that expressed his glands was too rough. (Some vets/docs won't admit if they cause harm because it opens them up to litigation)
