Hello purriends,
I was wondering at what age should my kittens that are four weeks old should start eating solid kitten food? They Have started eating mommas food and I am worried about their little teeth I am going to go out and getting kitten food wet/dry for them tonight they are still eating from mom. Any help would be appreciated thank you in advance for your help.

I believe its normal for them to start "sampling" solid food at that age, while still nursing from mom as well.

I never feed hard food to kittens under 8 weeks old. They are always started on canned kitten food (chicken or lamb only) around 5 weeks old. I mix with KMR and warm water to a thick soup and then take each kitten indivdually and let them lick it off my fingers.

I feed them on a shallow plate - not a bowl. They usually will eat pretty good by 6-7 weeks old. Never feed kittens fish and stick with chicken, lamb or beef canned food.

Dry can be put down (do not wet it) but the main meals (3-4 times a day) should be canned food.

They are generally high in phosphorous, mercury, and other minerals and can cause a vitamin imbalance, but IMO its not THAT critical since even on fish flavored cat foods since most still make chicken and turkey and the like the first ingredients. Its possible to feed too much fish, and just avoiding it works too.

Kinda odd though considering how much kitties lurvs da fish.

Morey, Mitch, and their siblings started off eating solid food at four weeks. They had canned food available to them almost all the time and a few times a day I would give them a plate full of raw food (raw meat/bone/organs in certain porportions). They would happily attempt (and succeed over a few feedings) in tackling pieces nearly as big as they were!
