Killed by Navy Seals, and buried at sea.
Justice served.
I'm pretty sure the US has him and are keeping him, I of course wouldn't know, living in another country and all. I'm just so glad he's dead!

According to http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/...en-death_n.htm
it was the Navy (?)

other news reports said that they took his body on the helicopter when they left - and prepared his body in the muslim tradition - then it was reported that his body was buried at sea they didn't wait the full 24 hours to bury as per muslim tradition.

Bin Ladin buried at sea (Breaking News)
DigitalJournal.com - Kj Mullins - ‎23 minutes ago‎
During the fire fight in which he was killed Bin Ladin is said to have fought back and was shot in the head. According to ABC News it is Muslim tradition for the body to be washed by Muslim men and then buried as quickly as possible. ...

i don't believe he's dead or that they have him unless i see some pictures and/or video's
post #5 of 38
Yes, having the body is the only way to prove it's really bin Laden. And the mission did include Seals (among others), but was apparently carried out under the auspices of the Joint Special Operations Command, a little-known arm of the U.S. military:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joint_S...ations_Command

I have no doubt whatsoever that it is indeed bin Laden... but proof will be necessary for his followers. But on the other hand... why do we care whether his followers believe it? It would only enrage them... so maybe burial at sea is a good idea, come to think of it! No proof, no grave... hmm. It might make sense.

So was Bin Laden definitely buried at sea? I haven't heard the news for a few hours, I heard it staright away when they said he was dead and a few minutes later I heard his body was taken away. I've been with some friends and haven't listened to the news for a while, can someone please fill me in?

The jihadi websites have accepted he is dead with the predictable rantings about Obama and the U.S. I have never been a believer in conspiracy theories anyway but I don't think anyone would believe that they would be in on a ruse with the U.S. With Obama as president I doubt we will ever see pictures. I know Bush did it with Saddam's sons but I don't think Obama will. I know the whole thing about the Geneva conventions covering the jihadi's is controversial but according to the conventions pictures aren't supposed to be shown just as POWs aren't supposed to be paraded for pictures.

I've seen the pictures. They are leaked on the web as you would expect, but on shadier sources, heh! They looked real enough to me, although as you can tell with the amazing special effects in the movies or fake "provocative" celebrity photos via body doubles these days that seeing is not believing and anything can be convincingly faked. The liability of lying about that though would outweigh any possible advantage I can think of (if he were to release a video tomorrow and say, "Uhhh, no I'm not, stupid infidels" that would end some people's careers instantly), so I'm sure its true.

I don't see why they felt the need to honor him with special respect with regard to his corpse for a mass murdering enemy of the state. We don't have to resort to the Roman days of parading enemies through the streets, but cmon. Probably had the general's eyes rolling in the back of his head when some pencil neck diplomat pushed for it.

Would this website be a forum, if so, I think we're looking at the same one

Just last week it came out that some of the earliest captives after 9/11 said that Al Qaeda had a nuclear weapon planted in Europe and would detonate it if Bin Laden was killed or captured.

I guess we'll see if they knew what they were talking about.

He and his son are dead.

I don't doubt he is going to be or is already burried at sea...but I hope they went over his body with a fine tooth comb. Gathering DNA, blood, pics.

The Navy Seals....what can be said about them. Ultimate patriots and brave to the highest degree.

I know this won't bring anyone killed on 911 back, but I hope it brings the feelings that justice has been done.

God bless our country.

I really hope that his death brings some people peace and closure. The unfortunate thing is that even if he IS dead, there is always be more willing to stand up and take his place.

That particular photo is a fake, easy to spot the manipulation.

Supposedly this house was just a hundred yards from a major military installation. That looks bad for the Pakistanis, but I suspect our military doesn't know every resident in every house around their bases.
I find it hard to believe that he is already in the ocean. Can they do everything they need to do in less than 24 hours?
The only thing completed so far is the use of facial recognition software. It wouldn't take long to take samples for DNA confirmation. That confirmation will take awhile. Muslim tradition demands a quick burial without the body being embalmed. I don't know what it says about a water burial though. It was the best thing they could do. A grave no matter how hard they tried to keep it's location secret would be found and turn into a pilgrimage site with the threat of rioting and violence. The jihadi websites giving in so quickly and condemning what was done, as well as the Pakistan Taliban vowing revenge is, I believe, proof that it was Bin Laden.

I certainly hope it is true, but I am a bit skeptical. Hope he is in h*** where he will be right at home. I am sure our country's security will be ramped up due to possible retaliation down the road. It is always a worry to me.

I didn't hear about this until I watched the news this morning. They showed a clip from the Mets/Phillies game of fan reaction when the news spread thru the stadium. You can find several videos on youtube.

The strange coincidences are: the game was in the 9th inning and the score was tied at 1-1 (9-1-1); the teams playing were teams from New York and Pennsylvania. Gives me goose bumps thinking about it.

Honestly, I'll believe it (maybe) when the DNA evidence is released.

Does anyone else find it unsettling that the nation that appeared to have been sheltering one of the world's most wanted terrorists, also has a sizable stockpile of nuclear weapons?

That was my first thought after I heard the news that he was dead. There most likely will be retaliation from his "people". That scares the out of me.

I'm not cheering in the streets that the evil _____ is dead, but I sure ain't shedding any tears over his death, either. Justice has been served. I hope all the 9/11 families who had love ones murdered can find some closure now - along with anyone else who was a victim of that insane man's wrath.

If he is not really dead, I am sure Bin Laden will be forthcoming with a video of himself holding a newspaper with the headlines of his death. Scary thought isn't it.

If he isn't really dead, I doubt that he'd go bragging about it. He'd want the world to think he's dead, so they'd quit looking for him. Being the coward that he is, he'll just slink off into another one of his hidey-holes - using more women as shields.

That has been a point of concern for some years. The US even offered to take over security for the weapons when things were so bad there, but no takers.

The Pakistanis are going to learn the wisdom of the old saying, "Those who lie down with dogs get up with fleas."

But there are many questions. Do you think 4 foreign, unidentified helicopters were just allowed to land within 100 yards of a base?

The US is now saying they have DNA confirmation. Of course, those are the same people who were saying they were sure before the DNA confirmation.

If he was alive, he would absolutely come out and say he's alive and well - that would be the ultimate embarrassment for the US.

I'm glad they followed Muslim custom for his burial. I think it shows a respect for Muslim culture, even if they hate the person himself. There is enough rage from extremists, no reason to add more fuel to the rage.
I believe that he is dead and yes good respect for following Islamic traditions for his burial.I saw a pic in the sun and I think it def was him.I remember we went through the same thing after Saddham Hussein was killed.I can't say I am glad but he did do terrible things to people and justice has been served if it is in our hands to serve justice.I just would be worried if no one wants revenge for his killing.x
post #25 of 38
I'm hoping the photos and videos should be released publicly like was done Hussein. I don't worry about fueling the rage of the extremists by doing so because they already hate us and want us dead anyway.

You have a point. He is an arrogant, narcissistic piece of work, and probably would love nothing more than to show us "stupid Americans" up.

I don't know whether to believe he's dead or not. Guess we'll find out soon enough...

Well spoken; that's exactly how I feel too!

I'm grateful that none of the operators who took part in the mission were killed. That is a testment to the training, skill, experience, and professionalism of those involved.
