Bin Laden is dead!

Just breaking now. Multiple Sources confirm.

Reportedly killed 1 week ago by a US missile.

We finally got the !!!!!!
The word I'm hearing is that his body is in U.S. control.

Of course, while it feels good, it doesn't mean much. He wasn't capable of directing much in the way of daily operations, or even big operations.
He hadn't been seen so long, I thought he was already dead. With a missile huh? NICE!
It's about to be announced by the president. The U.S. has his body. No further details are available at this time.

Never mind this thread. I just noticed that Heidi already started a thread in IMO.

Darn - you just beat me to this. I also posted in Breaking News.

Yes, US SpecOps have his body and they have been waiting for DNA confirmation.

It may not have a big impact on Al Qaida's day to day operations but it has a HUGE impact on the morale of our troops and others who were waffling in their support between democracy & Taliban/Al Qaida. This makes a huge impact on those who are fighting for their freedom in the Middle East as well.

CBS is telling now that he was shot in the head. Anyone else hearing this.
Just saw this! It's about time
I can only imagine how happy this news must be making our troops in particular. Its obviously not the end of terrorism, but its such a symbolic victory cutting off the head of the snake responsible for the 9/11 attack.
Since this was started in the IMO forum, I just need to add 3 words to the thread:

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

(finally)
I can't imagine, nor do I want to the reaction this news is going to have on the terrorist world. That butt head burnt the Koran not that long ago and just from that, how many Americans died as a result?

No one is going to win the war on terror- it is a never-ending war I am afraid.

Yep, the retaliation bothers me. I know they couldn't give up on finding Bin Laden, but it achieves nothing. Although I am hoping it will improve Obama's approval numbers ...

I am curious now if the birthers will have the woodface to continue this dumb blah blah blah about the birth certificate... I mean, Seriously!
My biggest question & first thought in my mind was:

So in many people's eyes will he now be a martyr?

It will surely help Obama's approval ratings a bit, although he went a little over the top taking credit for the military's actions. The politics of it really doesn't matter though, the important thing is we got him.

I live near a base.

For the last week I have been seeing alot of odd things-planes in 3s like back with desert storm, navy boat being trailered, and ALOT of plane activity and the entrances being locked and guarded(like they do on 9/11 each year)

I had told my mom and shes east of me and saw/heard alot to. I told her we must be going at it bad or a known threats on the plate.

A first I have no idea if its related is she had no phone service at all which has never happend in that area(her house it happens but she was a few towns over and its always fine unless in the mall)

My husband is paki native but not near the afghanistan border. His brother and family went to pak for an arranged marriage for the brother a few months back. Wonder if it will take longer for the wife now...
My brother texted me from Hawaii asking if I had heard anything as to why the bases are on alert. At the time I didn't know about this. When I did I called and told him.

(He's in the Navy.)

He and family members were living in a mansion just outside of the capital. That in my mind is certainly absolute proof where the Pakistani government is at when it comes to these jihadi groups. What a hypocrite. He's supposed to have been this tough guy who didn't live the good life even though he was wealthy. There may well be retaliation and he will be thought of as a martyr. But the people who believe in this extremist form of Islam are a macho crowd and as long as Bin Laden was alive we were small in their eyes. Our leaving Beirut after the bombing of the Marine barracks was the beginning of these nuts seeing us as paper tigers that they could take down.

Am I the only one who finds the celebrations in NYC and Washington kinda tasteless? Yes, one can make the argument that it had to be done, but I don't think we should ever be celebrating having to kill someone in the name of national security.
Tasteless, maybe. Not surprising, however. Lots of pent-up frustration letting loose.

I'm just glad I'm not a Pakistani politician today. Going to be lots of questions for them.

Odd that many Americans used to find celebrating death in the streets to be offensive. I hope the whole country isn't in on this.

And no one doing the celebrating on 9/11 ever apologized, either.

No one doing the celebrating on 9/11 ever made the claim that you would never, EVER see Americans doing something like that.

In fact, one post from this very forum I remember well...."we conservatives are above dancing in the streets".

Well, now we know.

The ones I am seeing celebrating look like college kids. Maybe they were ten or twelve years old when 9/11 happened . I remember being offended seeing celebrating in the streets in various Arab countries when the twin towers went down. I am sure there are those in other countries now who will be offended in the same way by seeing Americans celebrating in the streets. I wish we had more class.

At the risk of being the odd man out, UBL was the devil on earth. I think when evil is destroyed, people have a right to rejoice.
