When I fax my resume, cover letter, and application form, do I need a cover sheet? I'll be faxing everything from Staples or Office Depot. If I do need a cover sheet, do I need to create one myself beforehand or does Staples have one I can use? I really don't even understand what a cover sheet is.

Also, since everything is being faxed, should my name be at the top of my cover letter? I know my address should be. But some sources say my name shouldn't be at the top. But it seems like it would depend on how I'm sending it as to whether my name should be at the top or omitted from the top.

A fax cover sheet specifies who (a person or department) your resume goes to, as well as your contact information. It's possible the fax machine is used company-wide, so it's important to include a cover sheet, so your cover letter and resume don't end up in the "dead letter" pile.

I would include your name, phone number, email address. etc., on each sheet you fax. Should the pages get separated, it will be easier to put them all together.

Yes; send a cover sheet. You can use some fill in the blank ones at Staples or you can make your own. It may look more professional if you use your own; but I have done both. And it is a good idea to at least have your name on every page sent for the reasons mentioned above.

I would make the cover letter exactly how you would if you were mailing it. You will be signing it and should have your name typed at the bottom like a standard business letter; so no need to add it at the top unless it's already on a letterhead. But my experience with hiring is that "overdone" letters and resumes can be overlooked sometimes. (No one wants to read size 8 or smaller font...yes people do that...especially when it's faxed!)

Good luck with the job hunt!
