It's May, and it's SNOWING!!!

I had planned on going to the laundry mat today to do a few loads of sheets and towels so I didn't have to spend an entire day doing them in my small portable apartment washer/dryer.

What do I find when I wake up this morning?! SNOW!!!!! And not just snow, but a snow storm!!

Argh!!!! It's May! We're supposed to be having sunshine, flowers and green grass!!!

Needless to say I won't be going to the laundry mat today. I think I'll make some chili instead.

If it makes you feel better, back in the mid-80s, I was living in Calgary, and I had cut grass one day, then a couple of days later (May 19th) it stormed and I had to shovel snow. But, all in all, May snowstorms aren't really that rare and I have seen snow in June as well.

I remember it having snowed here in June as well.

I think that's why we in the east refer to Winnipeg as "Winterpeg".

We went golfing in Calgary the first week of June one year and I had to go buy a jacket because it was so cold.

Some of us here even use that term, because man! Can our winters be brutal! There are times where Siberia (the coldest place on earth) looks balmy compared to us. With the windchill some winter days it's near -60 Celsius! But our summers usually make up for that.

I've got a bad case of cabin fever this year. The worse that I can remember. It's been a long and brutal winter and just when we think spring has come and the snow has ended, we get more cold and rain and now snow.

This morning I woke up to talk radio. The topic? Protecting your garden plants from the cold/snow!

That's what you get for living in the frozen north!

However...I grew up in Colorado, and there isn't a single month it can't snow there west of Denver, in the mountains. I remember snow on July 4th when I was at summer camp near Lyons, CO.

I remember while still living in Wisconsin laying out in the sun in April one year to get an early start to a tan, and waking up one morning in May to 5 inches of snow. At first I thought it was fog - till I put my glasses on to see that it wasn't.

That's exactly why I stay in Texas: I've had enough of the snow & cold! It used to be that you had at least 6 months of nice weather a year up north: now you're lucky if you have 3-4 months.

I was living in Big Bear, CA in mid-May '98 when I woke up to it snowing. It snowed for a day and a half before stopping. The previous snow had completely gone and this snow was gone in a day.

You can keep all that up north please. I can't handle the cold at all. I would have to have an indoor greenhouse or sunroom or something for my vegetable plants and me too.

I hear you on the cabin fever thing. We don't usually have very bad winters in comparison to you folks Linda, but we have had a really lousy spring, rainy and cool and then more rain and cool. Yesterday was a lovely day but woke this morning to more rain and cool. Dang, I want to go golfing and although the courses are open I refuse to golf in this kind of weather.

Cheer up Linda, spring and summer are coming, just not as soon as we'd like and then we'll be complaining about the heat.

I never complain about the heat and cherish every warm day.
Summer never stays around long enough for me. I live in the south but not south enough for my tastes. Someday I will though!

I actually LOVE snow! And could not live a year without some. In northeast Illinois we have had some major snowstorms in late April and early May! I think it would be cool to wake up to some snow and it wouldn't last with the warm Spring sun upon us now. You can make a snowman

And I thought it was cold here! It's so damp and chilly, I swear I could see my breath when I was outside a few minutes ago. And it's supposed to hit the 30s tomorrow night.
A pot of chili for supper tomorrow night might be in order.
Oh, and good luck getting to the laundromat

I decided not to go! When I looked at the temperature it said that with the windchill it was -17 Celsius!!! I'm going to try again tomorrow.

I think the snow has stopped now. I decided to spend the afternoon in bed watching TV, snoozing and cuddling with my kids under my electric blanket. I'm still bagged from having stayed up all night watching The Royal Wedding

Hmmm, weird, I've always said "Warmly" as my closing salutation. Thinking about it, I wonder if I should say "Cooly" during the summer? hmmmm
