help..Spooky, the black kitten i just got adopted

this is about Spooky, the black kitten we rescued in march and finally got adopted. he is one of the sweetest cats i've ever met and the couple that adopted him love him to pieces. Spooky is 11 mo and neutered and they have another 11mo old female that is spayed. they've had him for about 2 weeks now and they're doing the indroduction by the book. there's less hissing now than 2 weeks ago. they still keep Spooky in a separate room when they're not at home. they spent a lot of time with him and for a few hours a day put the female, Scarlett, in another room and let Sooky have the run of the house.
here's the problem. in the last week whenever Spooky has the run of the house he poops and pees on the dining room floor. it's tiled. whenever he's in his room alone he always uses the box.
any suggestions? they really love him and are willing to do whatever.
it seems strange that he started doing it now when they seem to get along just a little better

My kitten does the same exact thing!

She's 9 weeks old, uses the litter box when she's in her room, but when she's in the living room, she poops on the floor.

We've also introduced a new kitten (5 week old) recently and they love each other and play.

I think more litter boxes maybe. One in the area where he is going. How far is it from the area and his box?

It may be from stress from the new situation. Do they have feliway diffusers running? That might help de-stress him.

A kitten at 9 weeks is about as "civilized" as a 3-year-old child. What is convenient at the moment is what it is likely to do.

I would say a litter box in that room, or restrict the cat to the room with the litter box. It takes a while for a kitten to learn to recognize it needs to go to the bathroom, and then find the litter box.
