Everything about Murphy is so gorgeous.
Thank you for rescuing him and trying to help his weight. He's definitely hefty and his coat color's blue, that's about all I can say with certainty

You might like to try posting in the breeder's forum to see whethe they could offer any insight as to Murphy's 'breed' origins. Although as our members there will no doubt tell you, if he has no papers he is not going to be recognised as a particular breed.

Hi Catlover, and Welcome to the Forums!

My I ask, where do you live? IF Murphy is a russian, so he is not of the american type... I would say sooner European-continental type....

Of course, many breeders doesnt bother to keep their less successful offsprings not along their lines. They are sold as pets. Good breeders do their outmost to find them good loving homes. Not so good breeders just sell them to almost anyone.

I see you did some research on russians blue, as you try to photo the typical features: The profile of head and nose (not bad at all), the silvery ticking at the end of the coat hair straws (yes), these reddish palms, these small feet (=paws).

The bred chins may be because he got neutered late? Ears arent very good.
Eyes arent good for a russian blue of course. But it may be a trick played by the camera. Or IS the photo of they eyes accurate?

My wife and me looked now again at these pics of Murphy. We think, if it is important for you to believe Murphy is a pet quality russian blue, although without papers - so do it. We do understand.

You did a good deed by taking Murphy from this shelter, and Im sure you did got rewarded by his friendship.
Him being perhaps a pet quality Russian Blue is for extra.

Good luck!
