Tiger Lily showed up at my apartment in 1995 as a full grown feral. I couldn't get within 50 feet of her. Over the next year of spending some time each evening sitting on the porch reading while she ate her food, I was gradually able to get close enough to touch her.

I trapped her and had her spayed, and then when the time came for me to move a few years later, I trapped her and moved her to my then-boyfriend's house because the apartment I was moving to didn't have a good place for her outside. She transplanted well and remained there since we got married a few years later.

Over the years she became quite tame for us and very affectionate, though she never wanted to come inside, and always remained timid of strangers. She also became a lot more bold, defending our yard against intruding cats and even dogs - she seemed to have pretty good sense about which dogs she could intimidate and which ones it was better just to hide from.

She's been slowing down over the past few years, though, and this year got really thin. We started her on medication for hyperthyroid, but she still wasn't doing very well. She disappeared a few weeks ago. After the first day I knew deep down that she was gone. I had spent the last couple of weeks debating whether or not it was time to take her for the final vet trip, but it looks like she's made the decision for me.

Goodbye, Tiger Lily.

What a pretty girl...and a lucky girl for having found such caring and understanding cat-parents.

I think the life you gave Tiger Lily was beautiful
.
She would not have had a good life if not for you. Please hold on to that during your grieving.

RIP
Tiger Lily
You were loved
