Well done, Brits.

I know there's already a thread dedicated to it, but a heartfelt "Thank you" must go out to the people of England for giving us something positive, of such grandiose spectacle. How endearing is the hope of youth.

Seems the last few years we've only been able to associate masses of people with natural disasters, burning flags, or yahoos yelling about taxes. Some call the Royal Wedding superfluous, but I call it just what we needed right now.

While I didn't get up early to watch the wedding, I've been watching the coverage since I woke up. Gorgeous bride, handsome groom, wonderful crowds! I found myself smiling the entire time!! VERY well done!! So happy for and proud of England.

Didn't watch it either, but have been enjoying the coverage of the royal wedding. It surely was wonderful to see a country come together like that and be so joyful and happy. Did lift me spirits to watch the coverage and I agree with you, we need this distraction in our country at the moment!!

I agree. I'm not into the Royals much, but I do think all of the nasty comments I heard from people I know and some of the media were just plain mean-spirited. How can any happily-married person not take a moment to wish a couple a long, happy marriage? I did get up early (DH gets up at 4:40 anyway, and I was on vacation today). I'm not a very sentimental/teary person, but I admit my eyes are red and sore now. They seemed so much in love, and it reminded me of my wedding day, 6 years ago (the love part!). So sad that Diana is not there to see her son marry. And what a fine-looking man he is now! I remember when he was born...

Kat'e dress was beautiful, and very appropriate. It is almost exactly like the one I tried on for my wedding, and didn't buy. I wish I had now.

The wedding was so tastefully done--simple, despite the venue--and lovely. I loved the speech about married life by the one clergyman (after the actual marriage part)--I forget his name--how very true it was.

I wish them what I was wished when I married, "I hope you both will be as happy as my husband and I are--then you will be very happy indeed." (A bank manager at our bank, who had been married 35 years.)

God Bless William and Kate, and may they have a very long, happy life together!

Nobody, but nobody, does Pomp and Circumstance like the British. We had the wedding on all the monitors in the cafeteria at work.

And there was something for everyone. Even our redneck types were all gaga over the fine automobiles everyone was arriving in.

Yeah, I wasn't even planning on watching, but I turned the news on and the wedding was on instead. Lovely! It was an uplifting event that I, too, believe the world needed. My favorite part was watching the horse drawn carriage and all the beautiful black and white horses.

It was a beautiful wedding. Her dress was lovely and it was somehow just right. It was formal and elegant without being stodgy or overdone. The ceremony was like her dress.

I watched it all day and it brought a tear to my eye,I agree it is what we needed.x

At first, I just didn't like the fact that it was clear there was a tremendous amount of money that went into such an affair, which is the people's money they should be spending on their own weddings and their own children's happiness and not having to funnel towards a select few wealthy elite that have entitlement based merely on the fact they were born, and really don't need any money/housing assistance since the wealthy can live lavishly merely on investment income (both liquid and property).

But I could tell for my mom at least it was very much romanticized, having a real life princess live out the fairy tail of finding her prince charming and having an epic wedding that she could share in by watching.

So if you think about how much money is spent on making a movie for mere entertainment value, then really a royal wedding is no different, and it likely generates considerable tourist income for the nation.

The Royal family paid for most of it as they announced when the wedding was planned as our Country is in such debt.x

Again I will say the royals paid for the wedding as Ruthyb has also stated

We had a good laugh at work today, was a fab wedding

Don't mean to start a debate, but where does the Royal family get its income? If you paid me $60 million a year with no expenses, I wouldn't charge for my parties either.

I hear you on the debt though, pretty sure ours is considerably worse, and Angelina Jolie has around twice the prince's net worth, so not like we don't send gobs of money to our elite either.

They have millions, come on I bet they don't really spend much and the money they have has been in the Royal family for generations,in the bank, interest added and so on.They also I know have auctions and sell things once in a while, one tiara= about £2 billion, not bad for a days work.x

I know the British monarchy owns large amounts of land in trust. That trust is passed down to each monarch. Profits and rents from that land goes to the government and the government pays the monarch a set amount each year. Many of the titled aristocracy in Britain own land. The Spencers owned a large amount of land that they received income from. The land ownership goes back to feudal times.

I have just watched our news and none of the money that was spent on the wedding was out of the tax payers pocket.I love Kate and William and I wish them a very happy future what Diana should of had.x

I enjoyed watching the royal wedding! It was quite beautiful and it was nice to see so many happy faces! "Well done, Brits!" indeed.
BTW, we orientals spend a lot for weddings. It's suppose to bring good luck to the couple.

I'm so pleased you were all able to join in with the celebrations, because we know how much people overseas love (as Mike put it) the pomp and circumstance of it all

As Ruth and Ash have said the Royal family paid for the majority of it, but even if they hadn't l would have been more than happy for my tax money to go towards the wedding. As Keycube said it's what this country has needed along with other countries, just to have one day to forget about the wars going on and the disasters that have recently happened.

The security on it was excellent as well because that's always a worry, but they were on orders to shoot to kill if anyone looked like they were taking a gun out.

Yesterday was a day i'll never forget.

Yes apparantly. They had made quite a few protestor arrests before the wedding so they were ready for anything. Every day for the week of the wedding they were checking traffic lights, underground sewers just incase of any bombs

Too true aswell if someone is coming at me with a gun then I would shoot the **** The wedding has really stuck in my mind and had a big impact on me,don't know if its just because I am British or because William and Kate are such loved people, especially since Will has had it so hard after his mums untimely death. Its like a new beginning for the Royals and sort of brought thm upto date.I loved the way they drove away in the Astin Martin,I don't think you would see many Royals being so independent and modern.
This Wedding has really played on a lot of our hearts and I wouldn't of minded if my tax money WAS paid towards to it as for so long all we have seen in the papers is doom and gloom and this has just been amazing to see and given us somethin to look forward to.I can't wait to meet our new Heir to the throne when they have a baby.x

Bet they got through some hand cream washing them that many times

Not only was the bride beautiful, but, my goodness, how Wills and Harry have, umm, grown up! So handsome...sigh.

I also heard that Kate's family wanted to contribute towards the cost of the wedding. They paid the equivalent of $500,000 of the cost.
