Hello all,

I've bought 4 kittens in the past month. Each have come to me from decieving 'nice' homes, I get them back and then each has a problem. (Apart from my 3rd, Blue, who was just a bit man-handled from his previous families' 2 year old son).

Bee and Poppy got their feces test results back today, and they have both come to me with salmonella. The vet told us that they would've come to us like this, and they have given us a course of anti-biotics to treat it. The vet also said we as a family are lucky we haven't contracted it, as it is easily transferred to humans as well as to other cats. It can also cause serious long term health problems for anything, let alone an 8 week old kitten

Secondly, got another new kitten today, she is absolutely gorgeous (will post pics when she's less shy), and turns out she is COMPLETELY covered in massive adult fleas
We've managed to give her a tablet which is meant to get rid of them, she was covered in dirt (which I noticed on the way home, hence why we checked for fleas and got the tablet).
She was in extreme discomfort, and we got about 20-30 fully grown massive fleas off her tiny body

Not only that, she and the rest of her litter were fed adult cat biscuits and water and nothing else. I personally think that is wrong. The woman we got her from also admitted upon collection that she hadn't wormed any of the kittens

I just don't understand why you would sell someone a kitten that you obviously would know has got a problem
Why don't people either sort it out first, or don't get them into the state in the first place?

Sorry for the rant, had to be done
Thankfully, we are going to give the kittens the best treatments and the best possible loving, happy home they could ever have wished for. Just wish that everyone treated cats and kittens the same way we do

Most on here could do a counter rant about buying kittens from people that abuse/neglect their cats and how that just encourages them to keep doing that. You have the RSPCA over there, these people should be reported to them and you should consider adopting or only supporting proper breeders.
Remember, these people only do this because they get away with it.

Totally agree, in fact I couldn't agree more. Like I said we're just glad that we took them away from them houses and we can work to make them better.

This is like people that see sick pets in petstores and buy them thinking they rescued the animal. You may have saved their lives, but you haven't helped the others and the ones that will come after now that they know kittens are easy money for them.

If you care, and truly want to make a difference, call the RSPCA. The vet records and vet's statements will serve as evidence.

Thanks for the advice
I'll make sure that I get in contact with them, is it anonymous?

Not being in the UK, I can't say that it is and really the people may remember who got their kittens from them. BUT I'm sure that if you let them know your fears of retaliation they can talk to and advise you on the matter. You wouldn't be the first to report someone and be concerned.

I'll be cheering for you.
It probably won't be easy, but doing the right thing and making a difference never is easy.

Yeah, as long as I don't get an angry woman over at my house I don't mind haha. But then again, as you say, she is in the wrong, and what she is doing is wrong. I wonder if any other people who had kittens from her experienced what we have done.

Yeah Im sure you can report anonymously, You can always ring and say this is happening that is happening and they should investigate and just tell them you would rather not give your name or address incase of repercusions

Its heartbreaking to think people will bring kittens up and let people pay for them knowing fine well they are poorly!

Definitely log it with the RSPCA, and i would also get in touch with your local Cats Protection and any other shelters in the area just so they know not to adopt anymore cats/kittens to these people.

You can report anonymously to the RSPCA, but they aren't always that good at dealing with this kind of thing. If they are making money, the tax man is also a good person, as people dont always declare 'income' from this kind of thing.

The first lady made it quite clear her cats had had multiple litters, there were 2 different litters there and her other cat was pregnant too. She claimed that 'a stray came in and got all 3' but later admitted they had had more litters before. So we don't really know.

Any other ways I can try and get it sorted without calling the RSPCA and causing trouble?
From what you have said it doesn't seem like the best solution?

What if they go there and just find that all the other cats, kittens, dogs, hamsters, rabbits etc that she has are actually healthy? Won't we look a bit silly?

And yes, there were that many of them -.-

Thanks for all the advice everyone

For others lurking on the thread, this is why its recommended to check first in person (hence not a fan of shipping cats site unseen), see that you jive with the cat/kitten and that its been properly raised underfoot and weened preferably for 12 weeks before adoption, and get a health guarantee (even if its just a week) that lets you get em to the vet.

Even though you'd want to rescue a kitten from abuse like that, IMO it just feeds the problem as they'll keep doing it as long as its profitable.

Here in the US, thats why its always a great idea to go with a good shelter or humane society rather than individuals, and usually cheapest too, especially in the long run as an unhealthy cat can rack up a big vet bill in no time.

Found out last night that Paisley isn't even litter trained
Can anyone help me, how do we litter train her?

We've been watching her and every time it looks like she needs the toilet we just put her in the tray, is this right?

Me too. I totally agree with Strangewings on this. This woman needs to be reported and it makes me so very upset to think that she has other kittens that are suffering and not receiving proper care.
Please do the right thing at least for those other kittens and cats.
