Poop Problems

I've read all of the suggested solutions for pooping problems.

My 8 week old kitten has pooped and peed in the same liter box when it is in the bathroom, but when I bring her to the living room, she pooped along the wall. I thought it was a one time accident, when I caught her in the act and she started running and pooping. Resulting in poop in multiple places in the same area as the initial accident.

I started moving the liter box out into the living room and placing it on top of the spot she initially pooped in and caught her standing NEXT to the liter box trying to poop. I walked over with the intention of putting her in the box but she ran and then pooped along the other wall.

I'm just not sure what to do.

How long have you had this kitten? 8 weeks old is very young for any kitten to be separated from their mother and litter mates. My first thought is she needs to see a vet immediately and you need to tell them everything you know about her. This is not normal, and at this age is extremely serious.

Vet visit makes sense, but is it that serious? 8 weeks is still pretty much an infant, and it may have simply not learned reliable litterbox use yet, especially if its already been there a week (consensus seems to be that it takes about 12 weeks for a little furball to be fully weaned and have learned all the kitty tricks from mama cat). For now, the solution is simple IMO, keep the kitten in a single smaller room w/ a litterbox (perhaps the master bath), as it doesn't need the run of a whole house so young (if anything, it might be overwhelming w/ such a big territory). Best of luck.

Add more boxes, especially for a kitten that little. Be sure to clean the places where she's already pooped with an enzymatic cleaner, then place the boxes there. You might also want to try Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract litter for kittens. It could be that she's overwhelmed with the big space and she's just doing it from being stressed. Do you have a feliway diffuser you can plug in? That might help her, too.

Thanks for all the suggestions!
I added another litter box to her Saferoom (bathroom) and found that she likes to poop and pee in separate boxes.

I'll definitely be getting that enzymatic cleaner.
