Vibes for Simba

Simba, one of the remaining 2 kittens from the litter that included Cloud & Gizmo, has developed a serious eye problem. I noticed he had been keeping the eye closed or only opening it a little and a lot of teary discharge. Turns out he has an ulcer on the surface of his eye, his inner eyelid is somewhat swollen, the eye is a cloudy white and unfortunately he might be blind in his right eye. We're keeping a close watch on him and crossing our fingers, hoping it doesn't lead to him losing the eye.

I presume you were with him to the vet? What is the real diagnosis, medicines did he got?

If not, please do so!

Good luck!

He was on antibiotics for a URI which eventually cleared up. This new problem, tearing & discharge, only started a few days ago. And the ulcer wasn't there. I just noticed it today. He's back on the antibiotics, but his previous bout with URI might have caused damage to the eye which led to the ulcer. He's got another appointment with the vet on Thursday, so we'll see.

Well, it's not an ulcer like I thought. Like I mentioned, he had a URI which he recovered from. Somehow the cornea of the eye was damaged. Might have been from a foreign object in the eye or perhaps getting clawed in the eye. He's on antibiotics for a minor infection & eye drops, but there's nothing they can do for the damage short of removing the eye. He's not blind in the eye like I thought, so we're gonna see how the medicine does. Hopefully that'll clear up any discharge. There's still the possibility of the eye getting worse though, leading to him losing it and I'll cross that road if it comes.

A little update on Simba. His eye is much better. There's still a little drainage that I have to clean several times a day and he doesn't quite open it all the way. The eye no longer looks cloudy (it's now a normal vibrant gold) and the corneal ulcer is visibly healing. Gonna take a while to fully heal though.
