Vibes for Billy

We're at the vet at 11:20am this morning. At the kitties last meal yesterday, Billy didn't show up. He was under the couch. When I pulled him out, he just sat there looking dazed. He didn't eat ANYTHING. And he didn't sleep with me, he just crawled back under the couch - where he was this morning.

He ate a few licks of food this morning.

This is NOT Billy. He's our little piggy - usually running around like a mad man in the morning, trying to cause me to trip and break my neck while I fix food, talking up a storm, hopping around, demanding love from Chumley...

Gary didn't sleep a wink (which isn't saying much, but he got to worry about Billy all night while being awake).

Thanks.

He's running a low-grade fever (didn't feel hot to the touch to the vet either, so I'm not crazy). No signs of bacterial infection, very hydrated, no signs of pain in his tummy, everything feels fine.

She's seen a number of cases like this over the past month or so. Normally a viral infection like this clears up in a couple of days, but this one seems to be taking about a week in a lot of cats. We're just to keep an eye out for signs he develops a bacterial infection problem. Otherwise just let him rest and not eat... and if he doesn't eat by Thursday, bring him in Friday and start force feeding him. Hopefully we won't get there.

Oh - and he weighs the same amount he did at his annual last year LOL. Every other cat has lost weight - including Ming Loy! (Don't know about Chum, I wasn't trying to get him to lose weight until the last vet visit when I was told he needs to lose some). So once Billy does start eating again, I do have to be MUCH more vigilant about not letting him have any access to Tuxie's kibble.

Aw, poor chubster Billy is under the weather. I am glad is "just" a viral infection. Now it's the waiting game. When Leo had viral infections in the past (he is our eating machine) we offered him home made chicken/turkey broth to help the body wash away the virus and get some protein in him. I used chicken and turkey legs to make it, did not skim off the fat and reduced down quite a bit.

Get well soon Billy

I just boiled a chicken.

Oh good to hear Billy is going to be ok.

See, even chicken soup is good for sick kitties. for the sweet boy!

that he gets over this quickly. It isn't contagious for the other kitties, is it?

Hope Billy is feeling better soon.

Ricochet had some kind of viral infection with a fever several months ago. Thankfully, it got cleared up with antibiotics.

I hope Billy recovers quickly, and that it's nothing serious!

None of our Docs recommend separating sick kitties (if they're already a part of the family) unless it's something known to be highly contagious and no one else is sick with it yet. A) The stress of separation just affects everyone's immune system, and B) as indoor-only kitties, they've already all been exposed to it anyway if one of them is sick. Being indoor-only kitties, it's pretty much a given it has to be an airborne thing.

We have no way to separate anyone anyway, living in the RV. We just have to watch Chumley especially closely as he's FIV+.

Actually, antibiotics treat bacterial infections, not viral infections. If Bill develops any signs of a bacterial infection (runny eyes, snotty nose, throwing up), then we'll start him on antibiotics. But it's just like with people... you can't treat the flu with antibiotics, only secondary bacterial infections that may result from the suppressed immune system.

The good news is Billy ate some breakfast this morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Adding in my

Ophelia had a similar thing this spring, as have several kitties at the shelter & owned kitties I know.

AW Laurie!! Just saw this thread and freaked!!! But now after reading on I calmed down. SOOOOO Glad Billy is alright. That was quite a scare for you and Gary. There are ALOT of "viral" infections going around. Even Presley had something similar just two weeks ago. But he started eating within twelve hours and just had a bit of diarrhea. My vet told me that this is typical for this time of year. Maybe Billy will lose a few!!! Of course, that would not be the way we want our darlings to lose the weight. Tell Billy that Perla is sending off lots of kisses head rubs and lots of love!!. And lots of get better vibes from me too and lots of for you!!!!

Isn't it odd that a lot of cats have come down with this and that it's airborne, because when Rosie and Jack were poorly a few weeks ago that's exactly what my vet said?!.

I'm so pleased it's nothing serious with Billy though. Our kids have given a few of us a worrying time this year

More healthy coming for Billy

Billy was meowing for the late night meal last night, and jumped up to "his" spot for the meal!

He cuddled with me like normal through the night, and has been chasing and tackling Ming Loy today like normal! I don't know how happy she is he's feeling himself again.

Thanks for all the good thoughts and vibes!

And yes, Susan, it surely seems all of our kitties have added a few years to our lives this year!
