ENGLAND... LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY!
They've been interviewing people from the US, Canada and Australia today who are lined up at the barriers for the carriages to pass. It was great seeing people from other countries dressing up with Union Jack hats and banners, just basically joining in the spirit of the whole event!.

One group of American women said they had their taxi drive up and down the mall to see which was the best place stand for a view
Brilliant!!

Maybe that's a premonition, they are after all actually called Catherine and Henry..
Henry VIII married his older brother's widow Catherine (of Aragon).

You may now address me as HM Queen Carol Duckworth Kernsham of Dallasport.
We seem to have quite a few queens on TCS, you can call me HM Queen Mari Calthorpe Rooston of Vantaaford. Bloody Mary is fine too..

I likely would have done the same thing!!!

The Queen is mainly a figure head here with The Governor General acting as her representative, which is why we don't get tomorrow off as a holiday.

My Dad was a huge fan of The Royal Family. So I guess that's where I get my insatiable appetite for all things "royal".

I remember one time in the 1960's The Queen came to Winnipeg. My Dad was thrilled! He was in his 60's and like a little kid on Christmas. He dressed in his best suit and put on his best hat (he always wore a hat when leaving the house) and took me to "see" The Queen. With me being small, probably 4 or 5, he made sure I didn't get trampled in the crowd and got me right up in the front of the rows of people, with him standing proudly behind me.

All I remember about that day were hundreds of people lined up to see her.

When the parade of cars came by, my Dad took off his hat and held it over his heart. The parade of cars consisted of several black cars with black windows all rolled up, zooming by at the speed of light. One car had the rear passenger side window rolled down about 2 inches. From the gap in the window were 2 fingers in white gloves holding a white hanky and waving it up and down.

So I sort of saw The Queen. At least 2 of her fingers anyway!!! But boy! My Dad talked about that day until the day he died. It was a very proud moment for him. I don't know how he would have taken Charles and Andrew and their disastrous marriages, but he sure would have loved each of the weddings!

I can hardly wait! I know I won't be sleeping much tonight. I can only imagine how Kate must be feeling. William's life won't be changing all that much, but Kate's world will be turned upside down. She only got a taste of things while dating William, but now she is firmly in the middle of it all.

I going to sleep in guest bedroom as not to wake DH tomorrow. I have scones in the freezer but took out Irish Soda Bread instead. My co-workers (except one) think I'm crazy!

I won't be up early to watch it because I have to work, but I'm sure there will be plenty of coverage about it tomorrow evening when I get home. I just want to see her dress, that's all

Mom and I will be watching, because an opportunity to vicariously visit a foreign country is not to be missed! But I had steadfastly avoided all the hoopla over the dress and the jewels and so forth... until my friend Rush's sister started a thread about it on Facebook. She managed to get me into Girly Mode, and now, heaven help me, I'm sitting here making tinfoil tiaras for my Mom and me to wear while we watch...

Me neither, not my cup of tea. I'll probably be up at that time, but I'll be playing WoW.

I absolutely cannot wait to see Kates dress and hair.

Can someone across the pond explain to me why she isn't going to be HRH Princess of Wales, is it because William is 2nd in line not 1st to be King?? I think they said she will be a Countess and Duchess also known as HRH.

Apparently you have to be born a Princess to be called a Princess such as Andrew's daughters. Even as a Princess, once she married she would take her husband's name, i.e., Kate would become Princess William (as Princess Michael of Kent). When William becomes King she will become Queen whereas if a female ascends the throne such as Elizabeth, the Queen can choose whether or not her husband will be "King". Elizabeth chose for Philip to be a Duke rather than King.

That's my understanding but I could very well be wrong.

When Diana married Charles, she was "Lady", and after the marriage she was "Princess Diana", not "Princess Charles".

So I'm confused as to why Kate will become "Princess William of Wales" and not just "Princess Catherine of Wales"

And as for the Countess and Duchess? I didn't know they get all of those additional names. I don't think Diana did.
