Never heard of that. Is it a liquid?

Most liquid antibiotics you are supposed to administer a measured amount with a small syringe placed towards the back of the mouth inside the cheek but not straight down the throat (otherwise it can go into the windpipe).

With my furball, I also hold his head up a bit so it dribbles back and hold for five seconds before letting him go, otherwise he tried to spit it out.

If its a pill, you can buy pill pockets to stuff it in so the cat will eat it.

If I am not mistaken this is an equivalent of Augmentin in Eastern Europe. I would definitely try to give the meds with food is she/he takes them. Even if you have to administer the meds in the mouth I would offer the kitty a little food first so that her stomach would not be empty when she swallows the antibiotic. This way you will minimize on gastrointestinal side effects.

It would be ideal if your kitty would take the antibiotic on her own in food, for example in her favorite fish wet food if the the antibiotic is liquid, or wrapped in soft cheese if it is a tablet. One of our kitties does that.

If kitty is not taking the antibiotic on her own you will have to administer directly into the mouth like Ducman said.

Hi Deah, you did not indicate if the antibiotics were liquid or pill form. If you can get them in your location and the antibiotic is in pill or capsule form you can buy Greenies Pill Pockets to give them to your cat. It is a treat like pocket that the pill or capsule fits into and the kitty will eat the meds right up in the tasty treat.

If you can't find the pill pockets, get a pill shooter. I hate using the pill shooter on my meezers but I've had to do it twice with my male cat. He figured the pill pockets out right away and ate the treat around the pill ;( Thankfully there was no choking when I used the pill shooter. I just shot the pill into the back of he cats throat and massaged it. He swallowed it right down.

If the antibiotic is in liquid form; your vet should give you instructions on using a syringe.

The antibiotics are pills, and I pulverized it and put it on some sardines/tuna with tuna oil too. Is that ok, or is it wrong to give the antibiotics like that if its a pill?

My little girl is on amoxicillin now. I crush them and put them in er food and it works well. The vet also told me cream cheese, baby food or yogurt. So if your baby gets tired of the sardines you can try that.

If there's a Lidl store near you, you could try putting the pill in a piece of one of their store-brand "cat sticks". They're rather soft and can be shaped around the pill and are much cheaper than pill pockets.

It's probably okay as long as your kitty eats the meal in one sitting with the pulverized pill in it. It would probably not be good if your kitty eats little bits at a time and the entire pill is not consumed all in one sitting.

You could also try adding the pulverized pill to her regular food to see if she'll eat it in one sitting.

Hi Deah
Sardines/tuna should be OK, I would choose the water rather than the oil variety. Here in the US we have pill pockets, but I did not mention it to you since I don't think you have it available over there, but I could be wrong.

Yougurt, cream cheese or any kind of soft cheese that could be wrapped around the tablet or mixed in with the crushed tablet is OK. Of course wet food would be perfect if your kitty would accept the tablet in his wet food. Just make sure to replace the "sacrificed" tablets with extra from your vet. Sometimes it takes a few trial/error steps to figure out what the kitty will accept. You need to make sure the kitty takes the entire treatment.

And I agree, your kitty should have the recommended dose of antibiotic in one serving to insure effectiveness.

My feral waiting to be neutered is on amoxicillian and gets the pill mixed in with a half can of trout fancy feast and then gets more food when he finishes.

So far I never had any meds the vet ever said no you cant crush but I would still ask
