the leaves don't resemble honeysuckle, though ...

I googled images with "honeysuckle" and the flowers look similar to your pic, but the leaves don't look like what I remember ??

but, as I look through all the pics, it looks like there are a LOT different kinds of them, and in some states they are considered "unwanted" .

If it's any kind of honeysuckle, you should be able to tell by the fragrance -- it's the most wonderful scent in the world! But I haven't seen honeysuckle that color before.

Justicia spicigera. I've always known it by the name Firecracker Plant, but another name is Mexican Honeysuckle.
