Hello everyone!
My kitty Massimo has the Calici Virus, but had never shown any extreme symptoms of the virus. I noticed his gums were red, so I took him in for a teeth cleaning but the redness got worse, ulcers developed, he is in pain & there is some bleeding of the gums.
The Vet I have (I live in Turkey & resources are limited) is @ a loss of what to do. The Vet has put Massimo on 3 different antibiotics + vitamin shots + some topical solutions that were supposed to help with the pain/antiseptic. None of these have worked.
He had a gum biopsy & the lab results were: hyperplastic pseudoeplthelioma (lesion that mimics a form of epitheilial cancer but is not)
The Turkish lab that looked @ the biopsy could not pin point exactly what the problem is. Neither could my Turkish Vet.
Massimo is currently on 200mg X per day of Cephalex and I put Chlorhexidine on his gums once a day. This series of treatments don't seem to be working either.
What else can we try?
I read a calici virus booster shot might help with strengthening his immunity.
I read depro medrol 20 mg might help.
I also read interperon and cyclosporines could help with the immunity.

Can anyone help?
Thanks if you can!!

My cats have received Depo Medrol on occasion, usually when they have an inflammation of some kind. If not overused, I think it can be safe...

The depo is a steroid that will only help with the inflamation. I have a cat with chronic rodent ulcers in his mouth and if we start him on the depo, he needs a series of shots about 3-4 weeks apart. If you go down this path, ask your vet if they will interfere with any antibiotics that he is also receiving, as sometimes steroids can reduce the effectiveness of an antibiotic. My vet discourages using both types of drugs at the same time.

Do you know if it is viral or bacterial based? If viral, antibiotics aren't going to help him, other than to ward off opportunistic bacterial infections.

Sorry I can't help anymore than raise more questions for you to ask your vet.
