I just took in a pregnant cat from this woman who had WAY too many cats, none of which were neutered. She had three litters of kittens, as well as this pregnant one.
I decided to take in the pregnant one, and after the kittens are weaned, have her neutered and re-homed.
She has a little bit of a belly, and the woman said she thinks the cats 5 weeks along, but I plan to take her into the vet and have them take a look.
I plan on getting her FeLV tested next week, and was wondering if she comes back negative, does that mean the kittens will be negative as well???

That's so good of you to take in this poor girl- it doesn't seem like her or her babies would have had a very nice life with the other woman.
If she only has a little belly, she may still have a few more weeks. Do you have any pictures that could help us guess?
And given the situation, getting her to the vet was a good idea. There are many illnesses that can go around with so many cats especially unneutered ones. Also, there's a big possibility or inbreeding and multiple fathers for the litter. I'm not sure about the FeLV, but I'm sure your vet will know- be sure to ask him about all these things.
Good luck, and thank you!!

I would be worried about inbreeding if there were many cats or that her body will be run down from lack of good food. I personally would spay now if thats an option. The one who had kittens I knew I was going to keep them so wasn't worried about adding to the overpopulation.

I would get some bloodwork to make sure shes not missing anything for her/them. She is a double of a cat I had long ago-VERY pretty cat!

Is there any low cost options for her other cats-maybe offer to give her a ride or the best prices/phone numbers? Humane society may have some info too for a place to go(I would do that and not say a word of who this is as you dont want her to get afraid and shut you out tho if it looks long term to be a bad scene rethink that).

Our low cost clinics around here still charge around 70-90 per cat, and only if you qualify (ie- income assistance, minimum wage jobs). The clinics around here also dont like to spay during pregnancies for some reason- I'm not quite sure why.
I do plan to take her in for a complete checkup this week, and she is on a high quality, grain-free food now.
I am a little worried about in-breeding as well, although the other two litters seemed very healthy, so I'm hoping thats a good sign.

I found a website - there are many, but just giving you this one for a starter
,
http://www.dr-addie.com/downloads/660_felv.pdf

It's a PDF link - I was unable to copy and paste information from the file, but - it does say that even tho the female's blood tested negative - the kittens could pick up the virus in the mommy's milk.

I have a FeLV + cat, and I found that the vets really don't seem to know much about the Leukemia virus - so I've had to do a lot of research on my own. Some websites may not be all that up-to-date, so do a lot of Googling.

This dr Addie info sounds reliable enough - I especially like it because he doesn't advocate putting the cat to sleep just because of a test.

I also refer you to a thread in this forum - perhaps the members' posts will also help give you answers? http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho....php?p=2912458

By the way - she's just too beautiful!!

She is stunning!!
She doesn't look too close to delivery, but you never know-it could just be a small litter. Check to see if you can feel the kittens moving.
Although inbreeding is definatly not a good thing, the kittens are often fine, even if their parents are siblings, so don't stress too much.
Keep us updated!

She has a vet appointment tomorrow, to get a FeLV test done, and see how far along she is. I really hope she's not FeLV positive.

The vet said she's very healthy and should have the kittens in about 2 weeks. Her belly has already doubled in size in the last 2 days.
She is also negative for FeLV and FIV

When I adopted sascha she was pg and had the kittens 3 weeks later. Once I could feel the kittens she had them (2 her first litter and last) two weeks later. She didn't get too big but boy were those babies moving! I wish you all the best and I want to thank you for taking care of her!!! That is so sweet!!!

According to the vet, she should be having her kittens in about a week from now, but I still don't feel any movement. Should I be concerned?
Here is a picture of her belly now. Its much much bigger.

Don't be two concerned- if you don't have too much experience it can be difficult to feel. If you don't feel it within a couple days, my guess is that your vet was a little of with his estamation or something is wrong. Usually in the last week you can see them moving by just looking at her belly when she's lying down.
But don't worry yourself too much at this point- if something really is wrong, then there is nothing you can do about it at this point.

Good luck!

Still can't feel any babies moving, but she has definately blown up like a balloon. I hope thats a good sign.
Is there any way I can tell that she's almost ready?? I come home each day hoping to find kittens, but still nothing.
