One of my senor cats, a 10 year old female, has been having diarrhea and bad gas often. I was told it might be the food. I am feeding science diet senior, and in the past fed friskies. What dry food is better and healthier for my cat, and has the least non-natural ingredients. I also feed friskies canned food but I dont think that is the problem as I have always fed that with no issues in the past.

I would try something grain free, SD is full of grains and carbs and not very digestible for a carnivore at all. A wet diet would be best as well. I've fed Felidae, Evo, Merricks, etc for canned but you have to see what your cat likes best.

I have two allergy cats, one to chicken (diarrhea and gas) and one to corn (diarrhea, gas and hair loss).
I switched my dry food over to Taste of the Wild (Canyon River formula) grain free and they are doing great on it.
No more stinky kitties.

You may even find that its cheaper than the SD, its certainly worlds better.

Senior foods w/ limited ingredients can be harder to find. Taste of the Wild is all lifestages, as is Natural Balance's LIDs (Limited Ingredient Diets).

TOTW is high protein - 42% iirc. With a lot of extra ingredients, as well as green peas that don't work for all cats.

Do you know what ingredient(s) may be the problem? If you have an idea, and can get away with chicken, you may try looking for a food that's chicken and rice.

Has kitty been to the vet and had senior blood work? How is her kidney function?

I am assuming it might be the food, I havent had a chance to talk to my vet about it recently. Then I will find out for sure what it is, but i'm trying a new food with no grain or corn and starting there, as it's unnatural for cats and I want to try the simplest reason why she might have stomach upset first. Plus a better quality food is good anyway instead of all those fillers.

She had blood work last year but the vets dont tell me whats it's for and apparently things came back fine. Can they do a blood tests for allergies, to find out exactly what she might have if it's a food based allergy? I need to ask more questions when I go the vets dont say much about what I need to do for her, they suggested science diet food since she was 2 pounds overweight, but seeing the ingredients arent that good I am shocked the vet would suggest it.

I brought blue buffalo with duck, am going to start introducing it tommorow. In the brand they also have food for senior cats, and sensitive stomach, so lots of choices.
