Hi yall!

My kitten about 2 months old just LOVES durian. My worry is that durian can cause heatiness in humans which can lead to caughing or even fever, i'm worried that if over eating durian can cause such things to humans, then what about a 2 month old kitten??

I thought the main side-effect of durian was making everything in a ten block radius smell absolutely horrid. It was banned from our condo over in Singapore heheh!

DURIAN - JUST SAY NO!

On a serious note, no, durian is not an appropriate diet for a cat. Western nutritionists don't use the SE Asian hot/cool gauge, but rather just point to its high caloric density with high monounsaturated fats and carbohydrates, which can be an issue for people with high blood pressure or diabetics. For cats, the high carb load is a definite no-no, and the fruit is a natural depressant (contains lots of tryptophan, the same substance that makes you sleepy after eating lots of turkey), which may not be the best thing for 'em. Personally, I'd stick w/ only meats and the like for our furry friends.
