Let me preface this by saying we just got back from the vet and had a complete blood and urine panel taken, as well as an x-ray.

In the past few months Reggie has continued leaking urine while he's sleeping only. He does not "go" anywhere else or leak any while awake, it's just when he's sleeping. Hes 16 years old and has had kidney disease for a few years now. He's doing all around great with his levels and is acting fine, even gained a pound, but this urination while sleeping is increasing.

Vet took an x-ray to look for any tumors on the spine or kidney stones and while not 100% guaranteed, she did not see anything that alerted her. And the full panel they took also did not indicate anything obvious. So we are going to give Reg 12mg of Zeniquin once a day which if he does have a urinary infection will help. But it's a shot in the dark.

Has anyone else been in a similar situation and have any advice or how it turned out for them? We are going through several training pads a day on the areas he sleeps and of course he can't enjoy waking up with all that urine. If anyone has gone through this or has any suggestions its greatly appreciated.

I doubt this will help and your vet would probably have already suggested it if it pertained to your cat. Anyway, a friend of mine has a dog that has that exact same issue. The urine leaks only when the dog is asleep. There is a medication for dogs to help treat this problem but can't recall what the name of it is. There is probably something similar for cats. After the dog started the medication there was a tremendous difference.

Well we are trying the Zeniquin first to see if it helps, and while she mentioned there are other potential drugs that can be tried, the side effects and results aren't very predictable. So it's hard to tell if they would do more harm than good. From researching online it appears that others have had this problem but I can never find out what if anything was the solution. Besides the enormous amount of work making sure clean pads and blankets are in all of his sleeping spots daily, he wakes up on top of a pool of urine and I can't imagine he enjoys that.
