I have a 1 wk old orphan kitten that was brought home by a neighbors tomcat. He is small and lonely. I have him currently in with my 3 Chihuahua puppies but they are 3 wks old and a little too rough for him. My Chihuahua nurses him at night so I can sleep and I take over during the day but he just cries for his 'step siblings'

Is there a stuffed animal that is warm and has a heartbeat that I can use to keep him company for a few weeks?

PS I see on the website it says they are on back order.

Try a warm soft fleece wrapped around a hot water bottle and a wind up alarm clock, the ticking will emulate the heart beat of a mama or litter mates, and a soft stuffed animal.

Adorable picture.

I am feeding him KMR during the day, he only nurses at night. The vet said he would be fine and the suckling is good for him. She also cleans him and mothers him. She is an excellent babysitter. I am going to try and find a Snuggle kitty for him, I couldn't remember the name. Thank you.

What I did when I was watching a singleton orphan kitten was I wrapped a ticking type alarm clock in a fleece sock, and also gave him a beanie baby to keep him company. For warmth I used a heating pad set on low, I put it under the carrier but only under half so he could move away from it if he was too warm.

I must admit, I have it really easy. I feed him and she cleans up
She treats him like one of her own babies. When I take him from the crate to feed him, and he cries, she comes running to make sure he is okay

On a sad note, we found the momma cat and 2 more kittens at a neighbors house. They were really sick and tested positive for Distemper. The momma most likely will not make it because the owners have waited too longto get her treatment. What are the chances this kitten has Distemper as well? He seems to be doing great so far.

Beautiful story!

You wrote a tom cat did bring this kitty in? Did he did it for helping, although tom cat, or did he did it as a hunting catch, for using later?

About the distemper. I hope the kitten was carried away before the mom catched the distemper... Distemper is highly contagious, he "should" have it by now if he was exposed.
So with some luck he and you are beyond danger now. I hope and think, not being real expert.
Does cat distemper attacks dogs too??

Anyway, till you know more, consider yourself, your dogs and your house as carriers.
No petting of foreing cats, etc...

Wash off thoroughly clothes, hands, etc...

Your neigbours are of course carriers.

Tx for caring

Good luck!
