Good morning at the shelter!

Three cats adopted this morning!

A guy came in looking for a cat. I assume he had lost one recently, but he said he grew up with cats and the house needed one. He was pretty open to even our rough-looking guys. He visited with MeowMeow (a ridiculous name, eh?), a black long-haired girl that feels like a woolen fleece and loves attention. Then he sat with Big Papa for a while. BP is a black and white guy, intact tom, who just LOOOOOOVES people! Didn't take him long to find the guy's lap and settle in. Then he asked to meet Roger. Roger is really luxurious-feeling tabby/white guy who was adopted but returned due to the adopter's allergy. They really hit it off. If there is a cat with a 140 IQ, it's Roger.

Then an elderly couple came in looking for declawed cats to replace their elderly Persian who died over the weekend. We had two, and they adopted them both! Sable was a blue short-hair and fairly outgoing. Tootsie Roll (who comes up with these names, anyway?) was a tabby van who was extremely timid and had been trapped in a fairly wild area of town. We warned them that TR would want to hide, so they should put her in a room with nothing she could hide under/behind, besides a nest for her. They seemed understanding and experienced.

I've seen whole weeks where 3 cats didn't get adopted.

That's great news

Hopefully the adotions keep going like that

Excellent!!! I hope all of the cats get adopted and very soon. Even at the shelter where I volunteer, there have been many adoptions this last week. Of course, the kittens always seem to go quickly.

That's wonderful. As another shelter volunteer, I know how much it means to you. It's what we hang in there for, through all the tough weeks.

Lots of people looking for kittens lately, and our kitten season is not in full swing yet.

We do have one gorgeous little guy who looks black at first glance, but when you look closer, you see that he is a very dark smoke with a heavy white undercoat. He has some sort of exotic in his background; he has the wedge head and throaty voice of a Siamese, but he's a lover, too.

That's great! Adoptions are always a reason to celebrate at the rescue I work with. We had two 10-year-old cats who went to new families over the weekend!

Really wonderful news! Our shelter has had some good adoptions lately as well, especially with long term residents, but unfortunately one gets adopted, and 2 more come in.

The odd (bad) news is that Roger was returned after allegedly scratching the adopter's daughter. So he doesn't have his forever home, and he has to be in quarantine for 10 days.

The odder news is that the elderly couple went and adopted a third cat from us that we had on show at one of the vet offices. They have had multiple cats, and had just gotten down to none this past weekend, when their Persian died. All the cats they adopted were declawed.

Poor Roger! I am sure the scratch was accidental. I certainly wish that people would realize that it takes time for a new cat to adjust to adjust to a home and it bothers me when they give up on the cat too soon.

They returned him because he scratched their daughter?!?!?!

Good grief, it's a real, living animal.....maybe they should buy a teddy bear instead.
