using covered litter box for shelter

I just had an idea after getting a new litter box that i would use the old one outside for the ferals - as shelter from at least the rain now that its getting warmer.

The top however has ventilation slots. Has anyone else done this and if not any ideas of what I can use to cover that?

thanks!!!!

You could and that is a great idea. But bleach it out first. Put a very heavy rock on top of it so it doesn't blow away.

I use an old bottom of a very large plastic dog crate turned upside down. It just sits right on the grass. It blocks wind and rain very well and the food stays dry and water stays fresh this way. That will be my summer feeding station and the cats just love it. I even saw Yogi sunning in the opening yesterday. I put a fairly large boulder (football size) on the top of it to keep it in place. I have even seen then sunning themselves on top of the crate. They are happy about their new feeding station.

Thanks. I was concerned with keeping water out... but I guess I need to also keep it in place. there r concrete blocks outside I just worry about it crushing the plastic.
