A few years ago, I thought it would be nice to plant one to conceal the handicapped ramp we have. Boy, was I wrong.

This thing has taken over everything.

I would like to get rid of it..or rather transplant it to a better place in the back yard.

Any ideas of how I can do this?

Not sure on the specifics, but trim (prune) it back and then just dig it up, leaving as much of the roots as possible.

I had to giggle. They do take over. You've got to dig the whole thing out, or keep it pruned, practically weekly, as you may have discovered all it takes is a cane poked groundwards to take root and start a new bush.

Wear gloves and long heavy sleeves!

Good luck...

They are invasive little guys, aren't they? I have one that seeded itself (the birds' pooping may have done that, though) all the way across from the side yard to the back yard. I'm not complaining--yet--I LOVE raspberries!

Could you pull it up by the roots? Another alternative is to give a few canes to a friend (warn about the invasiveness, first).

Just in case you can't stop them, and get overwhelmed with berries: raspberries and blackberries freeze very well. Don't wash them, just pop them into freezer bags. Don't thaw before using--just rinse them in a colander.

Yum! I love raspberries, but I have heard what vigorous growers they are. Good luck transplanting it.

THey spread by runners but are shallow rooted. Best to dig/pull them out now in the spring before they send out new runners.
