What kind of litter box do you use?

I think I've tried just about every litter box on the market, lol.
My latest purchase was a Clevercat box, but I'm going to return it. It's too dang small! So I went to Fred Meyer today and bought just one of those big Rubbermaid Roughneck storage boxes and I love it! I swear this is the best litter box ever, definitely beats everything else I've tried. The cats have so much room to move around and dig until their hearts content.
Just curious what everyone else is using.

For just plain big and sturdy litterboxes with rounded edges for scooping, there are also mortar and general purpose mixing plastic tubs available at lowes and home depot usually by the mortar stuff. These are built VERY tough for their purpose, and yet are inexpensive since they are mass produced for contractors and not a niche product.

Personally though, I'm not much for scooping, and so have four of the large size (is really normal size) Omega Paw self-cleaning litterboxes that you just roll to clean.

Only problem is that if your cat has diarrhea, you would need to bury it and let your clumping litter absorb the extra moisture, else you get a mess when you roll it. Diarrhea is dangerous to have for long periods anyway, so is kinda moot as you wouldn't leave that untreated for long regardless.

Love the storage box here, too. Big and deep. Handy when you have large kitties.

I tried every one out there because Ritz (female) pees standing up. She is a tall cat, so the urine would reach 17 inches above the floor level. The dome covered boxes didn't work well because, depending how high and forceful the urine was, the urine would leak through the seals.
FINALLY I bought the largest Rubbermaid type container I could find, around 18 inches high, and cut a hole in the side for ease of access. Works like a charm.
Sometimes cheap, easy is the best solution.

I use Tidy Cat Breeze litterboxes.
I used to use a Littermaid and a few 'regular' high-back boxes, but I like the Breeze better.

I had the Clevercat and liked that a lot. Then I switched to the TidyCats Breeze because I didn't like having to haul heavy cat litter to my 2nd floor apartment. I love love love the Breeze. Unfortunately one of my cats has decided after 3 years that he doesn't love the Breeze anymore. We are debating on one of the sifting kind of boxes or just going with a giant Rubbermaid tub.

Using large size litterbox with the rounded in top attachment. But Lucky is an extra neat cat. Squats low, buries everthing deep but gentle. When we had other less neat cats wish I had thot of the Rubbermaid boxes. What a great idea.

We are using Sterilite storage boxes from The Home Depot. I think they are $3.99. They are about 16"x22"x5.5". They work just fine.

Oh, that clever cat box IS way too small and confining. It bother's me so when I am at the pet store and see those tiny litter boxes, especially the ones with the hoods that are so tiny!!!! I use the largest open box I can find. And those Sterilite storage boxes are just perfect to use as litter boxes and very inexpensive.

There's no place like home
I use Sterilite bins because they are less expensive than Rubbermaid. I too have a stand up pee-er (Scarlett) in my household and they are tall enough to prevent the pee from going over the top.

I don't even bother cutting out a notch in the side - they like the feel that it's an oversized box with all 4 walls intact.

Four of my cats mostly use the Sterilite bins with the 5.5" tall sides in the basement. Tonya, who mostly lives in "the library" (guest room with 7' bookcases on 2 walls), has a Sterilite bin that is 22"x16"x12" (no lid) because she is a bit messy. She gets in and out of it just fine, and so do the others when they feel like using it.

We have 2 extra large Rubbermaid storage bins here as well and LOVE them!
One is half covered, for those who like their privacy, and the other isn't, for those who like to "air out".
We have spaces cut out on the sides so the kitties can get in and out of them easily as well.

I used to do rubbermaid blue totes and cut down a wall but I have found they accept the clear totes just as well. I got a bunch for free from a thrift store who gave them away as unusable as no lids, PERFECT

And when they are on the third floor (the bedrooms), they have to complete a 96 step round-trip to use it so they must REALLY like it!!

Do you use liners for this tub or just put the litter in there?  How deep for a tub this size, and how often do you change the litter?

This is the setup we have .. We built this litter box enclosure . The top lifts up , there is a doorway on one end and two in the front .  The litter box is just an extra long plastic storage container ..  It works out great ..

I also have a clever cat litter box.  It's in the bathroom and I got it because the litter was getting on the floor in front of the tub.  At first the cats liked it but now that the newness has worn off and a newer box has appeared they rarely use it.  The box is small for my cats and they will only use it once or twice before they consider it full.   It is keeping the floor clean though so you're not stepping in kitty litter when you get out of the shower.

There isn't a lot of room in my house for litter boxes - due to the floor plan.  I also have one of the benches that conceal the litter box in my living room.  The third litter box was in my son's room and I felt I should move it before he came home for the summer.  I purchased  a large cat condo/litter box concealer and put it in the upstairs hallway.  Not trusting the 'kids' watch out for it when walking down the hall.  I still have the lid off, not sure the cats like it with the lid on because it doesn't have any venting other than the door.  The cats love this box!  Eclipse will walk along the top edge and reach down to dig a space before entering the box. It is covered in carpet and doubles as a cat scratcher.  The lid is leaning against the wall nearby and is not only used as a cat scratcher but as a hiding place for playing chase and tag. I am amazed by the size. It's about 3 ft x 2 ft x 2 ft

Which tub are you referring to? There are quite a few different types of litter boxes listed in the replies, so it would help if you quote the one you're asking about. Also, this thread is over 4 years old and not all of the people who posted are still active. If you describe the tub, someone else should be able to answer your question.
