5 Mo Kitten Seems potty trained, but specific variations

I have this five month old kitten who I got from a shelter. She was very young (4 weeks) when she came to the shelter. She seems litter box trained, but the smallest thing will set her off.

1. If I am cleaning the box, she will pee next to where the box was. If I am very careful and move the box when she comes, I am OK.

Any thoughts?

Hi

By cleaning the box, do yo mean that you are removing the little pies & sausages, or that you are giving it a major clean out? What sort of cat litter do you use? How many litter trays do you have & how many other cats?

Hi. I would add another litter box so you would have two and you could put them side by side. So if you are cleaning one, there is another one to use. For some silly reason, many cats want to use the litter boxes as soon as you are cleaning them and as soon as you are done adding the fresh litter. I would also get Kitten Attract litter to keep your kitten very interested in continuing to use the litter box. Good luck

I am just cleaning the pies and logs. I have two trays and one other older kitten. I use CatAttract litter

Thanks. I actually have two boxes about six feet apart and they both do get used. She is very good about using the boxes, but seems opinionated. I think what might happened was when I was cleaning one box, she wanted to use it and I quickly put it back without flattening out the ltiier. She took a look and smiff and decided she wanted to use the other box I was cleaning. I stood firm and hoped whe would wait, but she squatted firm and informed me that she can still pee outside the box and is not shy about either. Funny thing is that when I take her to the vet or lock her in a bathroom (only for five or ten minutes) she is fine. Don't have nerve to lock her in a carpeted bedroom yet.
