My 14 year old cat has been throwing up for as long as I can remember, at least once a week. We would take her to the vet and they would never find anything wrong except possibly hairballs because she's a long hair. Even so, she continues to throw up, so we just dealt with it. Recently, she's been having problems going to the bathroom. Sometimes it's diarrhea, others it's normal, but she will NEVER poop in the litter box any more. It's always either right next to it or in the room next to the litter box...we're not sure why. She also seems to be losing weight. I know that these are symptoms for intestinal lymphoma, but she doesn't have diarrhea all of the time, and she still seems happy and upbeat...her personality hasn't changed a bit. I was wondering if the weight loss could be due to the fact that I (basically her mother) have recently left for college and am only home a few times a month, or the fact that her brother cat (we had for the same amount of time) died in January. Most of the time that she has diarrhea is right after I leave home. I know that sounds really strange, but my mom and I have been trying to figure this out for a really long time, so any type of information would be great! (We're going to pass on the vet, just because she's old and I know that if she needed a special treatment, we wouldn't be able to afford it, so unless she starts really acting sick, we're going to stay away from the Vet as long as possible.)

Thanks!

It could be a billion things but just from reading your post I would say it was maybe stress. Just a guess. Brother cat died and you are gone for the most part. Outside of a medical problem I'd guess it is stress. You can ask your vet if he/she thinks it could be stress and come up with a treatment plan. You could also try the Farnam Feliway plug ins. It emits phermones which help relieve the cats stress. It's not the least expensive remedy but you can find it on Amazon for a relatively reasonable price. It is a plug in diffuser which lasts about a month. I'm subscribing to this thread to see how others respond.
