floyd... likes me? o.0

Floyd has always been one of those very standoffish cats. BF got him from the shelter at a 4 months old, brought him home, and he would occasionally lay on a lap, but even for the most part, nope. Not a big cuddler/affectionate cat. Mostly laying next to BF on occasion in the morning/once in a blue moon letting BF hold him. Doesn't like strangers, doesn't like most people, barely tolerates humans in general. He likes to be left on his own. Though he adores Zoe.

Toward me, he's always been really skittish and completely uninterested (can count number of times he's come to me and not ducked from being pet on one hand, I've been in Floyds life for almost 9 mos now, he just turned 2 last week) He absolutely has always seemed annoyed with me as, with me, came so many changes. (additonal pets incl. Zoe in Dec, smells, things, new apartment, getting his nails trimmed, new food, being brushed regularly, having rules)

Suddenly, in the last few days/less than 2 weeks, he's gotten insanely 'ok' toward me. Following me around, mewing (not his usual meow, actual 'mew' and 'purrow' noises that sound more like Zoe, our kitten) Rolling around on his back getting me to scratch his belly, rubbing up against my legs at a time other than when I am giving wet food, deliberately getting up from where he's sleeping to hop to me and start purring like a truck... falling into my hand when I scritch him behind the ears and under the chin... Still not a lap cat, but wow.

And he's being colder toward BF. :S

Trying to figure out if MAYBE he's realized I'm the one that does all the care and that life is not completely sucky since I came around, or maybe he's sick.

He has to go to the vet anyways (other half is flat out refusing to let me pay for it, and is waiting to have money, sigh.) for a check up.

But. He had a kitty cold (sneezes) a few weeks back, and he snuck outside to the balcony on the BF's last smoke break of the night sometime last week and wound up staying outside until his meowing woke me up in the early morning (BF had absolutely no idea that Floyd got out there and we're still trying to figure out how he slipped past) There is still snow on the ground here.

But now he's got a slight wheeze from his nose and is being all nice to me. And meowing more.

I'm likely just worrying too much as I'm rather fond of the little guy, so I needed somewhere to get the worries off my chest, and he will be going to the vet asap regardless of what the BF says about paying.

But, what do y'all think?

Thinking I am not so bad and just finally coming around?
Getting back at the BF for always snuggling Zoe?
Thinking I 'rescued' him from outside?
Feeling icky and just wanting some love?

Are you pregnant?

Cats have extra senses and many can tell when there is a change going on with us physiologically. If you are pregnant that could account for him suddenly wanting to be around you.

He also could be acting like this because you've been ignoring him. He may also have just claimed you as his person and that's that. Lucky you!!

Some cats take longer then others to warm up to people. I think he's been watching you and see that you are taking care of them and love them so he feels he can show he loves and trusts you now.

nope, not pregnant :P

And I've never ignored him, lol. I have always given him the same amount of attention (a lot) since coming around.

Though the choosing me as his person thing seems plausible. The bf who was always Floyds Person before is now Zoes Person (as he's generally hanging out on the couch where she can come cuddle vs my computer chair and he has beard scratchies.) So I could just be second best haha

Regardless, its awesome. I even woke up in the middle of the night to have him curled up next to me on the bed, which is new.
