Coat Changing at 1 Year?

Leiki is turning one year old this month, we got her when she was 10 months old. She is at least 1/2 siamese, although we were told she is pure - not that it matters to us, just thought that it might be useful?

When we first got her she was an extremely light creamy colour with mousy coloured areas along her back (like a siamese). We have noticed in the past week or so that her body has gotten a bit darker, more creamy, and the mousy areas are getting darker as well. In the mousy areas we've noticed that she has some lighter spots and stripes. Is this normal? Is her coat going to keep getting darker as she gets older? I thought by a year her coat would pretty much be as is.

Her eyes also seem to be getting more blue... although I could just be imagining that, lol.

With all pointed cats, the coats darken with age, its pretty normal.

This is Cassi an applehead siamese that an ex and I adopted.
This is Cassi when we first got her approx 11months old.

And here she is at two years old

The this is Ivory, the seal point DLH we adopted
Approx 4 months old

And again at 2 years

Yes that is normal for pointed cats... The same thing happened with the lynx point DSH kitten I rescued:

That looks like my Thai. He darkened up and got stripe-ier. He's almost 3. It's really hard to get a good pic of the Lynx point to show their stunning coats!
Leiki looks like she might be a tortie-point by your sig pic...beautiful kitty!!!

Thanks We always get comments on her when we show her pictures off. To think, when we first saw her picture I said to Mike, "let's get her, she's so ugly she's cute!". Although, to be fair, the pictures that the guy sent us were pretty bad, lol.

I was just surprised how much her coat had changed in just a few months. She is getting darker every day, I swear, I wonder if it also has anything to do with the weather? It's been getting warmer here and she is starting to shed a bit.

I also find it funny that she's getting "spotty" too - kind of like ghost markings but instead of going away they're becoming more noticeable. You still have to look to see them, but it's much easier now.

She's also becoming more social. When we first got her, she would only come out when it was just us here. If we had people over she'd be under her chair or in our bedroom sleeping on the bed. Now she'll come out and rub all over everyone, lol. We have conversations almost daily, she'll mew at me and I'll mew back.. if I get louder she starts screaming at me, lol. Earlier today when I was getting ready for work I was asking her if she wanted to be my boss (like on that cat food commercial), she was all loving, purring and rubbing up against me. Then I asked her for a raise and she bit my hand. I think that means no.

Thai started yelling at my cell phone this afternoon. I laid it next to me on the bed when we took a nap. I let it ring because I was too sleepy to talk to anyone and he just had a fit. If he could have answered it himself he sure would have!!!

We have to be extra careful around Leiki because she learns things after watching us do them. She figured out how to open her food cabinet, which is hard, so we put an extra latch on it... then she figured out how to open the latch, so we left a lock looped though it... then she figured out how to flip the lock up, so now it just stays locked, lol. She also knows how to open all of the doors in our apartment, so we have to keep the door locked. She can reach it from the shoe rack, so we make sure to block her view when we lock and unlock it. I don't need her unlocking the door and then opening it too - especially when we're not home. She also knows how to unlatch the dog crate, I've found her in there twice with the dogs - thankfully, they didn't come out when she opened the door because our apartment would have been destroyed by one of them, lol. She also knows that if she pushes her empty food dish off the table that it will fall in the dog's toy bin and Fynn will come over to investigate - which puts him at the perfect height for her to lay on the table and swat at him. She's also seemed to figure out that if she darts past them really fast, they'll chase her and bark - which results in them getting yelled at (well, not really yelled at, but told to shut up). And she also seems to know that if she hisses at them, they get yelled at. There have been a few times that I've been on my computer and heard her hiss at them, only to look up and realize that they were sleeping more than 5 feet away from her - she just sits there looking all smug.

Mitsy and Matti didn't stop darkening until they were about 2 and a half years old, and Mourek is still darkening (9 months).
Comparing Mitsy's and Matti's kitten photos with their current photos is ridiculously funny - almost like different cats

Siamese points darken according to body temperature - the extremities are darkest to begin with and then, depending on the climate they live in, they will darken in other places (usually the back). That seems to explain why Siamese have very dark ears, tail, paws, etc., but pure white chest, neck, and stomach...

What a little troublemaker! She sounds very smart - I'm sure she must have some Siamese in her
