I'm NOT "Lovin It"

Went to McDonalds to get lunch today. Bit into my hamburger and found a long strip of dental floss! I called and gave them a piece of my mind for that one. Told them they best watch their line cooks and servers to see who has this fetish for dental floss on the job.

They wanted to give me a free meal but I sort of lost my appetite after that, so they are refunding my money plus giving me a free meal. It will be quite some time before I go to that restaurant again.

One more reason that I only order fries from McDonalds! I only do that when we're traveling.
Ewwww!!!

If the floss was actually in the meat, it came from someone in their processing plant where the burger patties are made, not the actual restaurant itself.

Either way, that is so horridly gross! I'd have thrown up for sure!

If I were the store manager, I would have simply reminded you that its important to floss, and by including it free of charge in your food I was in fact helping your dental hygiene. Thanks are not necessary.

Eww!! I can't stand McDonald's. I never liked them as a kid either.

EEEWWWWW!!!! I'd be done too! That is beyond gross! Another thing to help me avoid fast food! I'll take care of my burger cravings at home!!

It probably wasn't actual dental floss. . .the twine they use for commercial meats is a lot like floss, so it was probably that. But still, finding things in your food is icky no matter what.

All I can say on that is yuck
Eww! I have never been disappointed with Mcdonalds food.

I am boycotting McDonalds anyway. I refuse to eat there...But thats why I am leery of any fast food places, often times its just random high school kids working there who don't give a crap about the customers.
At least where I live, I find almost all of the fast food joints are dirty or there is hair in the food or something.
There is only one place I trust, and its not even in the town where I live. I don't eat much of it these days though.

Reminds me of the time my sister found a toonie (2 dollar coin for those who don't know Canadian currency) in her McDonalds fries. She took them back to the place, where she showed what she discovered, they took it, kept it and gave her another order of fries. They could have at least let her keep the 2 bucks!

hissy, did you throw away that piece of something that looked like dental floss?

You could have/should have done two things with it. Show it to your local pharmacist to get an opinion as to what it was, and show it to an inspector at your local health department, also for an opinion and a follow up.

I'm wondering, is it too late?
Oh, gross!
Don't you love how places that serve food offer you a free meal when something goes wrong? "Yes, your disgusting food had a cockroach/fly/floss/teeth in it, I'd love another meal. Thank you!"

Things like this are why I only like fast-food places like Subway where you can actually see what they are doing.

Ahhh, this would totally make sense! I guess you would know by the width?

Well, guess it's time to change to (my favorite) "In 'n Out"! YESSSSSSSSSSS!!

The best burger ever, be sure to get your onions grilled!! Yeahhhh

We've gotten to the point where, except for an occasional venture into Subway, we don't really go to fast food places anymore. As LuvMyParker said, it's often just kids who're working there and they don't care.

If we really need a burger, DH makes them. He does a mean blue cheese burger with caramelized onions. And he makes them to order! Yum!

My Mom was always a stay at home Mom, so when me andmy brother got older she decided to get a part time job just for something to do.

Well she ended up working at McDonalds. She was still training when she accidently dropped a piece of lettuce on the floor, she picked it up and threw it in the garbage. The person training her was like "noooooooo". Ya see apparently the dirt doesn't "stick" to lettuce, so it's ok to pick it up and put it on the burger. However meat, tomatoes, etc you can put in the garbage because the dirt sticks to those things...

What the heck?!?!?!

So it doesn't surprise me that you found something in your meat. Goodness knows what goes on in those kitchens!

I literally gagged reading this!

McDonalds was actually my first job ever and truthfully I absolutely loved it, and so did everyone I worked with! We had a great time, and they taught me a lot of skills. It really sucks that this happened to you, because I know that an experience like that would turn me off to the place completely too.

That's one of the reasons I no longer eat at McDonald's. I just love their Big Macs, but I'll make my own when i get a craving for one of them. Their "secret sauce" is nothing but Thousand Island dressing.

That is just totally gross!

It simply sounds like a disgruntled employee who wanted to get the store manager/store/company in trouble.
Unfortunately you can't always get good help.

Sorry someone was rotten enough to do that to another person and that you happened to be the victim of it.

I don't eat any fast food or even many sit down restaurants anymore. No matter how clean it is, trying to explain to someone "don't touch bread before you touch my food" or you can't prepare my food in the same area/near/with the same utensils is too difficult for the average person to understand. And of course it's so hard to prove when someone does that so I can't sue for damages if it ends up sending me to the ER.

That is disgusting. I sure wouldn't go back after that, either...

Yet another reason to not go to McDonald's. Hate that place...
Eurggghhh yucky, thats awful, I love Mcdonalds, I don't go very often but I enjoy it when I do, its upsetting to think we trust people to make us food and this can happen.x

You and me both. I heard today also that sales were down a record amount in Japan after the tsunami - finally a piece of good news !!!

Simple foods made from high quality ingredients, thanks.

Who would love it?

As someone else said, if the string was actually in the meat, it came from the processing plant. McDonald's burgers are pre-formed and frozen.

And just as a passing point of interest, the place you are most likely to get food poisoning is your own kitchen. It's the rare home kitchen that could pass a health inspection. And don't forget, most of us on this forum have plenty of four-legged hair dispensers, so complaining about hair in food is probably pretty hypocritical!

I had food poisoning from taco bell...but I've never gotten ill from anything prepared at home. For me, a big thing is that not everyone washes their hands frequently...even after the bathroom, at home, at least I know MY hands are clean when I am handling food.

As for the hair, it's different (for many people) when its your own hair or came from in your home. Its kinda yucky when its someone else's. I am surprised how many places don't make employees wear hairnets.

DH and I got some mild food poisoning from Taco Bell last year, too. A few days later we were telling a friend who's wife said she saw maggots in the tacos she got there. I'm hoping it was fruit flies on the lettuce (short life cycle, hatches quickly) as larger fly species getting into the meat and it being old enough to hatch them sounds awful.

When I was in college, my roommate's fiance was a biology major. Their lab did microbiological inspections for the restaurants in the area. They said, as I stated above, that the majority of the restaurants were cleaner than the typical house. However, they said they never inspected a KFC they would be willing to eat at. The problem is a high humidity level in the kitchen, since the chicken is actually pressure cooked before it's fried.

Most people don't recognize food poisoning. If you've had diarrhea and/or vomiting for a period of about 48 hours, that's almost always food poisoning. Researchers say the average American gets a light case 2-3 times per year. The scary part is that that is one of the lowest rates in the world.
