According to Nutro's website, their Max Cat canned foods do not contain wheat gluten or corn.
http://www.nutro.com/max-cat/kitten-...y-giblets.aspx

But I am pretty sure the last time I bought it, the Turkey and Giblets formula for kittens read wheat gluten and by products on the label. I don't have a can in front of me, so I can't compare. Does anybody know for sure?

I'm trying to save some money on canned food, so I'm trying Nutro's "Natural Choice" line, which according to the label doesn't have wheat gluten or by products. Their 5 oz cans are around $1 at Petco, versus the Avoderm which is $1.39. I use a variety of wet, but the last time I tried Max Cat, the kittens threw up. Which is why I'm leary about Natural Choice. But I started out with a little bit last night, and so far, so good.

Does anybody else feed the Natural Choice line? Is it similar or different than Max Cat?

I doubt there's a descrepency, but they do have a lot of different forumlas, and I know that the adult Max cat at least some of them had wheat gluten and a couple things I didn't like.

Nutro Natural Choice Complete Care (the ones that don't say complete are a different forumula) is part of my cats regular diet. Its $1 a can at my Petsmart, but so too are Avoderm and Blue Spa Select most of the time. $1.40? Wow!!! That is why I don't go to the Petco within walking distance of my house and have to drive 10 miles to Petsmart. Way cheaper.

I buy all the varieties of Natural Choice Complete Care, and actually I think flavor wise Natural Choice is their favorite. Ingredients look fine to me. Natural Choice has a bit more ash than Avoderm and Blue is the only obvious difference I noted.

Wow, I need to start shopping at Petsmart! Thanks for the info! Natural Choice Complete Care is what I picked up, and they all seem to like it. So hopefully I can keep it in the rotation. And if Avoderm is only $1 at Petsmart, I can likely keep that in the rotation, too.

I was feeding Avoderm and Blue Buffalo, and both were 1.39 at Petco, which clearly was becoming too expensive. I started adding in Chicken Soup wet, which are around .90 for a 5oz can.

If anybody else has any suggestions for quality 5 oz cans for under $1, feel free to chime in!

Thanks again!

Do you have any non-chain pet stores around to check out?

The independent pet store here sells Chicken Soup for $.70 for a 5 oz can.

Petsmart has their Authority brand for between $.70 - $.80 per 5 oz can.

My guys prefer the Max Cat to the Natural Choices pate style. Hmmm... tho' maybe I should try back.. b/c it was a while ago that they rejected it.

I have a Pet Supplies Plus who sells the chicken soup for $.89; but no real independent stores. Not without driving quite a while.

I haven't thought to try Authority; a friend of mine feeds the dry food. I'll check out those cans the next time I'm in Petsmart.

Do you have any feed/farm supply stores? A lot of them sell Diamond products and may have Chicken Soup, a few (like Tractor Supply) sell Nutro products, too.

Locally owned pet stores are awesome. I work at a chain pet store (shaaaaame! well no it's a job and I need a job to support myself and the felines), but sometimes I go to the family owned one about fifteen miles away because they have a HUGE and awesome selection of grain-free products and natural foods. They've got some awesome stuff there (one of mine likes some of the Tiki Cat brand) and that can be around $0.77 at the family owned store.

Here is a quick list I was able to get ahold of. There may be more of them but I just did this on the fly.

There are several in the Max Cat line that have Wheat Gluten. I don't see any with soy. There are some that don't have Wheat Gluten. I believe the wheat gluten is mainly in our formulas with gravy/sauce to act as a thickener. I hope this helps. Let me know if you need anything else.

Be sure to read the labels on both lines. My kitties get both Natural Choice Complete Care and Nutro Max wet foods. They love 'em. As for coupons, there is a site out there that does post coupons for Nutro Products but there are currently no wet food coupons on the site. Here is the site if you want to check it for wet food coupons in the future http://www.nutro.com/coupons-rewards...d-coupons.aspx
