might show that nervousness in physical ways? One that serenades you, or turns your car into a stink bomb till you get where you are going?

Alice will do that. This last time she went in her carrier on the way and when she went back to the vets for a recheck she went on the floor as the vet tech took her back to weigh her. She also drools really bad while she is at the vet.

I have all of a five minute drive to the vet - my girl will 'sing' the whole way, sounding more and more pathetic and as though she's developing laryngitis - and she either pants or drools at the vet - and will not come out of her carrier, even if I'm holding her favorite chicken right in front of her. My boy gets so quiet I've actually stopped to make sure he didn't pass out.

Lots of kitties will pee/poo out of anxiety...always good to have a spare towel in the car.

Well, from almost forty years of experience, I can say this. I've had these experiences while my babies were young or not so young but still in good health. When any one of them was very sick with a severe chronic or final illness, I never saw this any more. So in my mind, being unhappy with going into the carrier and protesting, showing fear, nervousness, any which way they can on their way to the vet is a good sign. To me that always means that whatever is wrong with them can still be fixed. When they are very sick or actually close to death, they don't protest any more while they are on their way to the vet.

Rocko is my pooper. I had never experianced such a thing till the day i brought him home from the shelter. I just thought it was the long drive. But...its wasn't....

I found that if i harness him instead of crate him and keep the journey under 10 mins, otherwise get out and walk him then get back in the car.
or keep a litter box in the back seat...

I am moving end of the month about a 25 min drive...so this should be fun! At least the other two are fine in crates....

Peanut absolutely howls. I actually took a video of it on my phone so I could show people the misery I had to endure- my vet is 45 minutes away from where I live.

Finn and Darci are so loud I am so stressed out even thinking about taking them. I found a great vet who will make housecalls but even getting them into the bathroom where I can contain for him to see them is a nightmare.

Both Finn and Darci have to go in the car next week - one to cardio the other to dentist. I will be stressed till i get the second one safe at home.

I feel so guilty knowing they are scared I don't know him mom's with babies do it - but they are probably easier to handle

The first 4 or 5 times I traveled with Callie, she pooped in the carrier. After that, she never did it again. Maybe she figured out I wasn't going to abandon her or something?? She was an awesome traveler!

Tumbles is the serenader now. He howls and carries on like he's being tortured the entire way to the vet.

Yes, Joey panics big time, yells the whole way there and always pees, while there he squeezes my neck so tight and pokes his nose in my neck, he breathes very heavy while there also. We had a new vet see him one time and she said take him home now, she was freaked out!

OMG I need ear plugs for Perkins' carrying on. You would think he was being tortured alive and it kills me to hear him so upset. Luckily my vet is about a five minute drive from my house, any longer I would need a Zanax
Pipsqueak seems to enjoy an outing now and again. He just mews and likes to look out the window from his carrier.

My OTB Oscar either peed or pooped every last time he was in my car.

Scarlett and Spanky scream the entire ride. All of the others at least meowl their displeasure. I dialed a dear cat friend one time while I was driving Scarlett and Spanky to the vet and put my phone on speaker phone. She totally cracked up.

I have found that if I sing to them, it quiets them down.

I have found that resting a hand on the carrier and playing the radio helps soothe them.

Mushroom is the cat of mine that howls and looks absolutely terrified in the car. Once I stop the car he is absolutely fine and he loves being in his carry cage. I'm looking forward to doing some ten hour trips with him in the car this year.
