I'm starting another attempt o switch my guys off Eukanuba.

I liked it years ago and didn't mind the price because Freya did so well on it, but over the last 2 years they've gotten rid of everything I liked about the line. First they replaced all the grains in the regular mix with corn, but you could pay more for one that still had the grains. Then they discontinued the more expensive version and charged the higher price for the regular food. Now I suspect they've either changed the content or the quality of ingredients because lo-and-behold, now everyone has dandruff. Which the vet told us was likely due to a lack of fatty oils - so we also add and omega oil supplement for them. It helps, but not entirely.

So I now have a bag of Wilderness chicken and as of dinner last night started giving them a 25% new, 75% old mix when they get dry.

So far so good. No reactions and even Freya's still eating so I'm crossing my fingers.

Wendel & Freya still get wet for dinner, dry for breakfast but nothing we can give her will make Sybil eat wet, so I'm particularly watching her since she gets dry almost exclusively.

Wish us luck and if anyone could spare some vibes that Freya (my resident picky eater) doesn't suddenly give up on the new food, that would be wonderful.

I hope everything goes well! Cats that don't want to eat new food can cause some headaches

<sigh> that always happens after a small company is bought out. Good luck with the switch, adding a probiotic during the transition can help their little bodies adjust without too much tummy and diarrhea upset.

Well, so far so good (knock-on-wood).

We've not had any stomach upset and we're on to a 50-50 mix of old and new. Even little miss picky is eating the new stuff, which I'm breathing a sigh of relief over. Usually if she's going to refuse to eat something, she does so within the first 3 days. I also noticed this morning that the dandruff is less on all of them.

Hopefully this continues and we can be completely switched over in another week.

It'll take about six weeks on the new food to notice any benefits such as better coat and skin.

Glad it's going so well!

For the coat, maybe, since new fur has to grow in. . .but are you sure about the skin? I have a terrible problem with dry skin in the winter, so I take fish oil, but I don't always remember to take it. If I forget to take it for more than 2 days in a row, my skin starts to crack around my fingers. If I do remember to take it, I see benefits almost immediately, with the cracks gone in 2 days. So I do think that you can see skin benefits faster than 6 weeks.

I hope picky Freya keeps liking the new stuff! Cats can be so hard to convince.
