On my way to meet Dottie for dinner last night, I went up 1382 to I-20. Just before I got to I-20, I noticed a large dead animal on the shoulder of the road. When I got closer, I realized it was a very large bobcat.

Remember, I live in town, and while there are wooded areas around here, even something of a nature preserve at Joe Pool Lake, it's unusual to see bobcats around here. The coyotes just about run them out of here.

Poor guy, managed to get pretty large, living this close to civilization.

I wonder if he was an escaped/dumped pet? I know there have been a few mountain lions shot around here (they're not native to this side of the state) who were found to be de-clawed when the body was examined by the state game warden. Poor bobcat
.

No, bobcats are native to the area (as are puma), they just usually are very good at avoiding roads, etc.

Well, wild mountain lions do occasionally wander off and end up on this side, often enough that they're considered threats to livestock and can be shot, they just aren't native. Just wondered if it's possible he was a pet because of being so large. But yeah. . .coyotes are very plentiful around here but you hardly ever see one killed on the road. They're usually smarter and faster than that.

On that note, I think I saw a mountain lion the other night, it crossed the road about 100 feet in front of me and I only saw it for a split second in the ditch while I passed. Could have been a big dog. . .but it moved like a cat. I'll never know for sure, I guess.

Mike, channel 5 news tonight showed photos of three bobcats playing in the front yard of a man in Frisco! They were so beautiful!

Here's a piece about bobcats captured in the area. The subject of the piece was captured in Frisco, oddly enough. I couldn't find the piece you were talking about.

Darlene the bobcat

An oddity: Frisco is home to the largest square footage concentration of retail stores in the whole U.S! I deliver up there regularly to a Toys R Us store.

I haven't seen live puma here, but I've seen them dead in the road. We saw a live one in Yellowstone National Park some years ago. The tail on one is the dead giveaway.

My grandma lived on the GA-SC border in an upscale neighborhood, and there was a bobcat that would peek in people's glass doors, usually at breakfast time. He was so cute and didn't bother anyone or any animals, so he became kind of a neighborhood mascot.
