This past November I lost my Lacey of 10 years. It was unexpected and what I thought was going to be a routine vet visit. Lacey was allergic to fleas and would often pull her hair out when not on her flea meds. She had been off them for a about 2 weeks as I was waiting for the next shipment of meds in the mail. She hadn't been feeling well and I figured she needed to get into vet. She had ripped hair out around her neck the night before and I thought she might need a cortizone shot like usual to help her. So, I loaded her up and brought her into the vet. My vet is wonderful and when I have my kids with me, she will take me pets into the back, do everything and tell me to come back in 30-45 minutes to get them so I don't have to deal with pet and kids. Well, she called me since Lacey had been due for her next senior screening to let me know her blood work looked good. She however was very sorry to tell me that Lacey had a tumor in her throat and was sufficating to death. She asked I come back to the vet to say my good byes and of coarse the best thing to do was to put her down. I rushed back to vet but unfourtantly as soon as they eased Lacey's pain with Valium she passed over the bridge to the other side.
I miss her terribly still. In so many ways I blamed my self, but the vet assured me there was nothing I could have done with the tumor. I had done nothing but love Lacey and spoil her for 10 years. I got Lacey when she was a week old and bottle fed her. She was like my first child. There will always be a spot in my heart just for her. R.I.P Lacey, I miss you so much and wish I had gotten to tell you bye and had been able to give you one more kiss.

Oh those are the hardest ones.....when we don't expect it. That happened to me too.

Sweet little Lacey.

God bless her and
to you.

What an awful way to lose your Lacey. It is so hard when we lose our cats from any illness, but when it is so sudden and unexpected it is unbearable. I am very sorry for your loss, grief is a very long process and different for everyone. I am glad you came on TCS to post about Lacey.

RIP
Lacey

thank you for the sweet words. So many people don't understand how people get so upset over pets. It is nice to find a community who does.

Yes this is the place where we understand how the loss of a cat feels. What a hard way to lose Lacey - that you didn't get to say goodbye. We all feel that we failed them when they go, no matter what the circumstances. But, your vet told you there was nothing you could have done, and you should believe that.

But she knew you loved her then, and she knows it now. They never really leave us.

I'm so sorry.

I'm so sorry. No doubt Lacey had a wonderful life with you; maybe that thought will comfort you in the long run.

Sending lots of love,

Ellen and Lucy the cat
