Hi I got a kitty today from a couple that was gonna have to take her to the shelter if they didnt find a home for her. They had her spayed 2 day's ago and she's on an antibiotic pill, they gave her one pill earlier today before I got her and said to give her the second one this evening, however she is scared and confused and wouldnt take the pill for me, I tried giving it to her in food but she wouldnt eat the food either. Any suggestion's on how I can get this pill down this poor baby so she doesnt get an infection? Thank's

This is how I give pills, kind of funny but it works: I lick my finger and stick the pill on the tip of my finger. Then I open the cat's mouth with my other hand (it helps if someone else is holding the cat) and stick the finger with the pill on it as far down as possible. It usually works!

I got it pretty far down in there but she still managed to get it out, guess not far enough. Im gonna try again in the morning and do as you suggested, dont wanna scare her anymore then what she already is by trying to shove it down her throat again lol. Some of it dissolved in her mouth so Im hoping she got a little bit of it in her system. Thank's

I actually thought about putting it in cheese but didn't know if cheese was good for cat's. Thanks I will try that.

I also open the cats mouth and push the pill down as far as I can...here's a trick though.

You can put peanut butter or butter on the pill, it helps slide it down. Also hold the cat's mouth shut once you get the pill down and rub her throat, they automatically swallow when you rub their throat.

Lactose isn't good for them (in milk and most younger cheeses), but the small amount used to wrap a pill won't be an issue.

I've never known a cat that likes peanut butter. That would work better on a dog.

Well tried the cheese and that didnt work. So I just licked my finger and put the pill on it and opened the cat's mouth and put it down there as far as I could and it WORKED
!! I feel so much better knowing I'll be able to keep doing that and she will get better. Now another question...What do I do about her missing a pill yesterday? Will one pill make a difference? Think she will be alright as long as Im able to get the rest of them down her? Thank's alot ladies (or gent's) I was gonna try everything everyone suggested till one of them worked.

I think one missed pill will be ok. One thing I do when I have to give pills is put a small amount of water on the pill and let it dissolve (check with your vet first to make sure it's ok to dissolve the pill). Then get an empty syringe (your vet can give you some) and suck up the water. Sometimes it's easier to inject the liquid into their mouths than stuff the pill down. Try to get it squirted in on the side of their mouth, toward the back, rather than opening their mouth wide and squirting it down their throat (this might make them choke). I've used this method for years! Good luck with your kitty. It sounds like you are going to take very good care of her, so I'm sure she'll be better in no time.
