I now have no clue!
From what I gather it's a mixed gender band. Jefferson Airplane seems like it could be, but it was mentioned above.

Ok... I changed my mind. Here are some more guesses, though some are no longer around and some started after you were 15:

Thr Mamas and the Papas
Sonny and Cher
Heart
The Killers
The Sounds
The Beatles
Joy Division
ABBA
The Village People
KC and The Sunshine Band
The Pretenders
Blondie
The White Stripes
The Faces
The Talking Heads
Big Brother and The Holding Company
Prince and the Revolution
My Bloody Valentine
The Fugees
Elton John and Kiki Dee
Sly and the Family Stone
The Brady Bunch
Pixies
Eurythmics
B-52's
The Black Eyed Peas
Velvet Underground
No Doubt
Talking Heads
The White Stripes
Sonic Youth
The Archies

I have a lot of points, so I don't want you to give me any. If I win, I'll give you 100,000 points instead.

If I were a duck in a very small pond and all you guys that have made massive guesses were all armed with shotguns standing all around the pond, I would have absolutely nothing to worry about.

You are now all on the honor system - I am going to give you so many facts that you could easily find the answer but we are talking about the best band in the world, and awarded thusly at the 2010 Grammies. Also, the day their last album was released it shot to number on the very first day on both the U.S. and U.K. Billboards. Yet the band is from neither place. It is of the genre alternative rock but I regard it as symphony rock. The two violinists are really hotties and all eight members of the band sing.

Right this moment they are on the Pally (the Palladium channel).

No fair looking and please keep your answer to ONE since I have given you so much information.

The "best band in the world" is, under any circumstances, a very subjective judgment. After all, some years ago, The Grateful Dead were voted BOTH the best band of the year, AND the worst band of the year!

A little like David Bowie being voted worst dressed man and best dressed woman one year...

Well, I still think it's Pink Floyd....

Are you gonna stop us when we get it right, Persi?

Ok! With all of those hints, it just has to be The Dave Matthews Band! If that's not it, I really do give up this time.

Again, if I'm right, I'll give you points instead of you giving me points. This way you can carry on with your contests to award points to others

Black Eyed Peas? They are mixed gender... though i'm not a fan and don't pay attention to the Grammys so I have no idea if they got any but they probably did cos they're pretty popular. So that's my guess. (and i'm still too lazy to go internet searching, so i'm purely guessing, not cheating.

I forgot about them (another mixed gender group), but I don't think they're known for playing a wide range of instruments.

Another band that crossed my mind was Belle and Sebastian (you should check them out, Persi & Alley), but I'm pretty sure they've never won a Grammy, although many would argue that they deserve one.

Oops, I didn't pay attention to the range of instruments part.

You are the WINNER!

BTW, I have a feeling that you may think Funeral was their first album but it was not. Here are some pictures of the group as they have evolved over the last ten years. They started as a man, wife and brother. I have that album in which the wife gets to sing most of the songs. Want it? Ask and ye shall receive. It was mentioned earlier that my love for Fleetwood Mac was based on my love for Stevie Nicks. DW claims the only reason I am so infatuated with Arcade Fire is because of the wife (the one with the accordion in the link below that can play twenty different instruments). I of course deny this, I love the music. Basically, this is sort of a continuation of my earlier thread of who is the oldest person on TCS. Guess its me. My point about being 15 was that I knew back then I would have the mindset to enjoy rock music as it evolved through my lifetime and would never just stop liking music because of a certain age. BTW, I just finished the book entitled Life by Keith Richards. Watch for the biggest concert in the history of the world on December 21, 2012.

You are right - I did think that! I remember reading a review somewhere (maybe on Pitchfork?) and buying the CD soon afterward. I had never heard of them before then. I would not describe myself as a devotee, but I do love *Funeral,* and we also have the album they released after that. Maybe I should check out their latest!
