Cat Urine - How To Tell When Area Is Clean

When using various cleaners, etc... to clean a spot on the carpet expecially up against the edge, I was wondering how can one tell if it is clean if the cat can smell so much better than humans? Also, how long should I keep the cats away from the area?

A little late on this response but as I see no one else has responded I will weight in a black light should do it. They even have kits at the store that come with a black light or you can just get a black light bulb.

When when of my guys marks, I use Urine Gone or Natures Miracle, I have also had good luck with white vinegar, it nutralizes the odor. I use to wash a spot with regular cleaners but when I would get down on my hands and knees to sniff, I could still smell it. When I used the white vinegar, I smelt nothing, thats why I always keep these two things in my cleaning closet, Urine Gone and vinegar.
