Last night we went to a sushi place for dinner and ended up ordering way more than we could eat, lol, so we brought it home. We ended up eating more as a late night snack. When Mike got up to get a drink, Leiki stole a piece of a whitefish (I don't know what kind). She was going absolutely nuts the entire time we were eating because she wanted that fish.

We don't plan on giving her fish like this often, but is it harmful for her to have a little piece? I thought that she might leave us alone until we're done eating if we give her a little bit of it in her bowl just before we eat. Like I said, we don't have sushi (or fish of any kind for that matter) often - less than once a month. Would it be harmful for her?

We would confine her when we're going to eat sushi, but she absolutely flips out if we lock her in a room that we're not in.

The things you read about raw fish not being great are really just when its a main part of their diet.

Sushi as an occasional snack is fine.

Spoiled kitty!

I have never seen her go so crazy over food before, lol. She goes nuts over her dry and wet, but this was a whole different level.

We feed our dogs raw, the other day I was given them chicken hearts so I though I'd see if she liked it. She just batted it around and tried to play with it. I cut it up to see if she'd stop playing with it and just eat it that way, she just picked it up, spit it out, went over to the (locked, so I thought) cabinet where we keep her food, unlocked it, opened the door and went it. We're sure now to make sure that she can't see what we're doing when it's something that we don't want her doing, as soon as she sees us do it a few times she figures it out herself, lol. Now we actually have to latch the cabinet and put a lock on it (the cabinet has things that you slide up to lock the doors, she figured out how to get her toes in there to slide them down so she could paw it open).

I'm glad that the sushi won't harm her, she's very insistant when she wants something. After she got the chunk off Mike's plate (she left the rice of course, lol), she came over to me and tried to steal some from mine. When I wouldn't let her have any she started grabbing my arm and when that didn't work she started biting me while she was doing it (softly). She doesn't do this with any other food. I did kick her off the couch and didn't let her back up until I was done.

Sushi wouldn't be as bad due to the type of fish chosen for it. Never feed raw fresh water fish - or eat it raw yourself, and be careful of the types and amounts of fish both you and your cat are eating.

Some fish have a higher pollution load (heavy metals) and many more aren't even remotely sustainable... but that's another debate altogether.
