Roadside zoo in Alberta being investigated by SPCA

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to put this, but...

There's a roadside zoo called GuZoo in central Alberta that's being investigated by the SPCA (for the second time) after graphic photos were posted on Facebook. I've seen these pictures, which were posted on the photographer's Facebook page, and they're disgusting. Tiny cages and shelters for full-grown tigers and camels, water dishes frozen over or covered in old feces, bleeding animals, rotting carcasses, domestic dogs jumping at wolves... it's disgusting.

In 2007, Zoocheck, a national animal-protection charity, said in a report that GuZoo tallied 100 violations of provincial standards.

That year, the Alberta SPCA laid a charge under the Animal Protection Act, but the SPCA said it was dropped in 2008 for lack of evidence.

But Gustafson said the vet must not have looked closely enough for fresh water, and that the animals’ diet consists of hay, grain, meat and some vegetables.

“They may not have had water at that moment,” said Gustafson, admitting some animals’ “old water dishes” have sat covered in feces in cages since last fall.

Why is this place still open?

To be totally honest, I didn't know there were any roadside zoo's still in existence.

And those that are still open should all be shut down. They're awful.

There is also the sickening case of Cherokee Zoo(s) on an Indian Reservation (of all places) / Charlotte, NC. that imprisons brown bears in desolate concrete cubicles/pits, their fur hanging off, begging for food. Grossly inhumane.

The unimaginably awful conditions have been cited for numerous federal violations and Bob Barker is campaigning with PETA etc to have them freed - but ASFAIK it is still in existence.

I hate zoos and the circus. I try to pass this on to my grandkids too. Animals need to be free to be who they were intended to be.

Yet they seem to still pop up here and there like a bad rash.

Agreed 100%, so do I, with my whole being. Thank God for animal organizations such as the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (here in the US it is the ASPCA), also the HSUS (the Humane Society of the United States), and also PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), these 3 organizations do so much good to shut down horrific places such as these, they have done so much good for animals, but there seems to be so much mis-information about all of them. I am a strong supporter and donate when I can to all three..they have done so much to stop animals from suffering in the 30-40 yrs. they all have been in existance (I even want to say the ASPCA has been around even longer..) Anyways, check them out and read what they are all about below I've posted their links:

http://www.peta.org/

They help all animals, not only cats and dogs, but all who are abused

From the zoo's blog:

It is obvious to me, that the author/photographer had deliberate intentions of portraying our farm as a terrible place.
They tried to cover some of the photos with lame excuses, however, they failed to mention the photos of the carcasses or the photo of the ill-looking elk. I bet they'd say it was photoshopped.

I really wish I could travel out there and see this place for myself.

Since they have no funding whatsoever, and rely solely on what they make in admissions and what they get for donations, I think they are in over their heads and probably can't really afford the care of these animals, which is sad, since they become the ones suffer.

I hope that place gets shut down though and the animals get moved to a place where they can be looked after properly. Poor things.
