Cat in Heat Issues?

Hello all!

So I have a kitten who is about 7 months old. Last week I scheduled to have her spayed and about 3 days later she went into heat for the first time. What luck! So I am currently enjoying her extra affection and hijinks but I have a question...

Today (about 4 days into her heat) I noticed she is leaking a clear, odorless liquid from her anus. I was going to give the vet a call tomorrow but I figured I would ask if this was something normal for a cat in heat or a possible medical issue?

Thank you so much!

What you're seeing is a clear vulval discharge. Perfectly normal, nothing to worry about.

Great article for information

Oh phew. So I guess I have a second question. Of course she is a cat any will jump on everything, is this something that will dirty up furniture and other things or should it be ok? I have been keeping her off the couch now but I do work 10 hours a day.

Well, you could put towels on furniture she likes to sit on. (Many people do that.) Then you could wash the towels. This would be the simplest, easiest solution.

Hi. Just wanted to mention that you can still spay a cat in heat, although of course it is best when the cycle is near end. So I would schedule the spay in about three weeks. She will probably go into heat again in a few weeks after the end of the first cycle, so you could get her spayed in between the two heat cycles.

I think the length of the cycle varies from cat to cat, mine was in heat for 7 days and then had a 10 day break, while the other one was in heat for 10 days and had a 7 day break... but then there are cats who are in heat for weeks and have just a few days of break in between, those are really hard to spay out of heat.
