I know this has been trodden into the dirt to great depths but I would like some advice.
Jipson is the new queen of the house and we bow down to her station. What I need help with is this. When she came home from the shelter they were feeding her Science Diet Kitten. Shes 10 months old now and was 7 - 8 months old whe we got her. We need to get her more kibble real soon. We also give her about 1 to 1.5 oz of Fancy feast Classic wet food 2 -3 times daily along with 1/3 cup of the kibble. She also gets RO/DI water. We'd like to go with a kibble thats not as pricey as SD yet want to make sure we're not feeding her potato chips.
Oh and we tried her on two other types of wet and she ignored them..can't recall the names but we got them from Petsmart. So far shes shown no signs of any intestinal issues and is a ball of energy.
Oh yeah and while I'm here. Is this a good feeding routine. Shes gaining weight since we brought her home. Was a little over 2 pounds in the 6 weeks according to the vets scale. We don't want to have her overweight but want to make sure shes got a full tummy and happy.
Thanks for this wonderful site and all you cat lovers who hang out here.

Please don't give her ro/di water, ro is fine, but ro/di has isn't recommended for long term drinking. For the price of SD you can get just about any good quality food, that stuff is massively overpriced grocery store crap. You want to look for something with name meats and meat meals as the first couple ingredients , that's low or grain free and not full of fruits and veggies either. As far as the wet, keep trying different flavors, cats can be picky and you're better off getting your kitten used to a variety at an early age.

^ I agree, some minerals in water is not a bad thing.

BTW, one great thing about Petsmart that a lot of people don't realize, it seems to be universal policy that they WILL take back food your cat won't eat.

Three times a day feeding is probably enough for 10+ months old.

For wet, find a favorite texture, but then definitely don't just feed one brand/flavor wet. Kitties can either become bored with it (flavor burnout) or addicted to it and become finicky eaters and turn their little noses up at other stuff. A problem if the formula changes, and its nice to have lots of different sources for complete and balanced nutrition and a little insurance against manufacturer mistakes like that recent Wellness recall.

A great cost savings tip is that at 10+ months, I think you can start looking at a rich quality adult food, and buy it in the huge bulk bags which offers awesome savings. The stuff lasts forever, and you can burp it and roll it up to keep it fresh.

I would take a look at Blue Wilderness Chicken or Duck. And when looking at cost, factor in that you don't have to feed as much of the rich food compared to the cheap stuff full of fillers. Remember to follow the slow transition recommendations, adding a bit more of the new stuff over a few days until you are at 100%.
