He's telling me that my 14 pound 4 year old male Maine Coon is overweight! He seems to be ignoring the fact that he's a HUGE cat (very long) and is telling that it's not true that Maine Coons don't reach full adult weight until 5 years old. He's saying that his steady weight gain over the past 3 years is a bad thing, when I think it's perfectly normal! Considering switching to a vet more familiar with Maine Coons since we now own 3 of them...

Can you find documentation from a reputable source to print out and take in with you? I mean, if the vet refuses to accept the information from a reputable source, then definitely switch. It would make my question his ability to learn as he practices, which is always important.

Veterinarians, as well as doctors, should always be continuing to learn. Advancements in medicine are always forthcoming and it's important that they keep up with it. If this guy can't even take the time to learn about a specific breed but just goes with the standard belief, then what else isn't he learning?

Just my opinion.
Good luck!!!
