WE are looking into how we are going to afford to take our 1year old male cat to the vet but I need some ideas of what may be going on or what else we can do?

He is a fixed cat and is a 100% inside cat. He jumped off the couch yesterday and his back legs slipped a little bit. He is limping a little bit but that's not ou(have kept a eye on him) He goes to get on the couch but seems to not be-able to jump that good. He is laying around doing nothing. Hasn't drank any water and only thing he is eaten is a little wet food when we put it in front of him. I don't know what to do?

Well, you already know what to do - take him to a vet. If cats don't eat for 2 days they can go into liver failure.

You should at the very least confine him. A small dog cage is preferable to a dinky cat carrier. There should be enough room in it so he doesn't have to lie in a litter pan as his only bed. Make sure he has soft, thick bedding to lie down on and fresh water and food. If you run your hand OVER the area where you think he injured himself (without touching his fur or skin) does heat rise up to meet your palm of your hand? If so, he has injured himself and cause inflammation of the tissue and he should see a vet. if he is lethargic or not eating, he needs to see a vet. Not drinking, same thing- he needs to stay hydrated.

If you have a relationship with your vet and are a long-standing client- call the office and see if they can work out payments for you. Some vets will work with you. Or call the local shelter and see if they have a vet they can recommend for you to see.

Yes, I agree with the others. Your cat needs to be seen by the vet. I hope he will be okay.

While often times when a cat bumps their legs, the limp may last only a day or two; but if he's not eating or drinking (no poo or pee in the box at all? Is he the only one so you can tell?) then yeah, vet for sure.

I have 2 cats that have had leg run-ins; one that I took to the vet and an x-ray taken - nothing wrong, said this is a common occurrence and the leg will get better in a day or two and the limping will stop.

Yourt guy can't jump because cats use their back legs to jump.

If he's not back to normal by tomorrow (walking normal, eating, drinking (check the litter box), then I'd get him into the vet.

Warmly,

Julie O'

AW your poor kitty. Sounds like he strained something. I agree with Hissy that you should confine the cat to a small space for now with everything he needs in that space. If your cat is not eating or using the litter box by tomorrow, a vet is in order. Just tell your vet about the financial issues and you can also contact a shelter vet, maybe where you adopted the cat? They might be able to assist you with the care of your boy. for you cat to feel better very soon
