Strange Conversation With Local Council

I was under the impression that you were only allowed 2 cats in my area unless you got special permission.

I called to inquire as to how to get that special permission, as I currently have 10 cats who are all de-sexed and indoor kitties and I wanted to be able to get them council registration.

I was stunned however when the council guy at the animal control department told me, that there's something called the "companion animals act" in state law, that means there is -no limit- as long as the animals are well taken care of.

I felt like all my christmases had come at once. My cats are well taken care of and It means that my cats can now be registered with the council and I'm not at risk of complaint for owning more than 2.

Make sure to get that in writing before you go and make a permanent record of having 10 cats. I'd hate to hear that that guy steered you wrong and suddenly the council starts giving you trouble.

Willowy very good advice

I would probably only claim half of them. My vet knows the truth but she also spayed/neutered about half them.

It's important to know for sure what's going on before you register those furkids. A lot of municipalities (as do states) have their regulations online and you might want to spend some time checking into the companion animals act, just to be on the safe side. I think I'd want to know what all that law entails.
