Yep, they're up big time, now. Indian paintbrush. Dogwood. All kinds of neat spring-y things.

Of course, although yesterday was really nice, today it's cloudy and cool. Hope we get some rain out of it.

We have all sorts of stuff blooming right now! Like the dogwoods, redbuds, lots of tulips and daffodils! And just in time for the Dogwoods Arts Festival which begins April 1st! Means we need to get our flower bed finished since we are on one of the scenic routes!

OMG I've missed the bluebonnets! I come back to Texas quite a bit but have never timed it right (or there's been a drought) but this trip I'm finally getting to see them again! First time in 10 years or so - fields of blue, so gorgeous, there are tons outside of the Bush Airport!

I haven't been able to time it right for the pecans, either, maybe that will change soon, too.

It doesn't look as if we're gonna get any rain, Mike. I just checked the radar to find out cuz we have to go out for a little bit, and nothing was detected.

The Blue Bonnets (and other wildflowers) are just starting to peak here.
I just love this time of year: it's so beautiful when all the flowers are in bloom! It's like a magic carpet of multi-colored splendor!

The odd thing about bluebonnets is that they grow in disturbed soil; the seeds have to be damaged in order to germinate.

The orange patches in that photo are Indian paintbrush. When Lady Bird Johnson started the wildflower program in Texas, there was only about a pound of Indian paintbrush seeds available commercially in the whole world, and they were worth about $10,000. They're still pricey, but not like that.

And we won't talk about the primroses, winecups, Mexican hats and firewheels and verbena...

I didn't see hardly any wildflowers when we went out today - Blue Bonnets or otherwise.
I don't know what happened to them all.
There used to be so many of them in this area.

Such pretty pictures! Thank you, everybody! I saw some bluebonnets today in the median of a nearby street, and even a few little pink winecups -- I love the combination of the two.

I may not think much of Texas in most other ways, but our state flower is a beauty!

Ah, but when Spring arrives in Michigan, it's very nice. It's just that it happens in June or July...

Remember, my family is from up there, originally.

It's beautiful in Wisconsin, too.
Unfortunately, like you said Mike, spring rarely arrives any sooner that June or July now-a-days.
It's still only in the 30's or so up there.

Normally, Dottie and I take a trip down to San Antonio during bluebonnet season. There's nothing like the acres of flowers in some of the fields, especially along the back roads.

And, on top of that, we usually go down and eat a dinner at the Casa Rio, the oldest restaurant on the Paseo del Rio in San Antonio.

Unfortunately, this year, Dottie is working weekends this month, and on April 8, we're driving the hot rod over to Shreveport for a group meeting/show/cruise. So it looks like we just have to enjoy it here.

Sorry Wisconsin (at least) north of Oshkosh is all covered with snow (10-17 inches) from last week's storn. Temps considerably colder than normal. Home opener for our minor league baseball team is April 7th. Guessing they will have to snowblow the field this week so the ground will be tolerable!
